Oh dear has the E46 M3 really reached this low level of modifications?
I would expect it to be very loud ie annoying when driving along normally making motorway trips a pain in the ear.
I really hope not - a great car. I would expect it to be very loud ie annoying when driving along normally making motorway trips a pain in the ear.
No doubt some will drill holes in the air box for more soundz

I doubt it, I completely removed the backbox on my clk55, and it's not stupidly loud, I would expect it to be very loud ie annoying when driving along normally making motorway trips a pain in the ear.
Lighten up guys!
OP already has the exhaust, what's the worst that will happen, if it's too loud no doubt there will be demand for it second hand as i presume it saves someone else gutting their exhaust only to regret it.
I for one have no objection...skip to 1min for the more interesting bit

When I got mine this had already been done. When "giving it the beans" it sounded good, louder, deeper & meaner.
But, it was too loud the rest of the time, and at motorway cruising speed it was just a drone that ran through the car.
I changed it for an unmolested OEM exhaust and it was instantly much quieter! SOOOOOO much nicer!
Very glad I swapped the de-baffled one for a un-molested OEM one. So my advice, don't do it.

Oh dear has PistonHeads really reached this low level of comment? You would expect wrong. The catalytic converter, resonator and center box deal with a surprising amount of the volume. You could remove the backbox altogether and replace it with straight pipe of the same diameter of the standard tailpipes and it wouldn't be 'very loud'. I would expect it to be very loud ie annoying when driving along normally making motorway trips a pain in the ear.

I had a modified backbox for a bit. sounded good, no drone and only noticable when booting it. Had to take it off for a Bedford trackday as its 101db on the static test so too close for comfort.
Thought it sounded better than any £400 after market job so for £50 worth a go.
