Hi Guys,

First of all, thanks for your time in reading this and hopefully replying. I am a long time lurker (I think I had a username many years ago but thats well and truly gone).

Anyway, I am here for some advice if any of you in the know are in the mood to dish some out.......

I have been heavily involved in music events since graduating college with a degree in event management. I have done everything from site management (managing the build and breakdown of events up to 35,000 over 3 days), event control (the safe running and managing of events while the gates open to close), sponsorship management, music booking (the booking of acts for the festivals), VVIP liaisons (helicopter drops), backstage co-ordination, stage management and pretty much everything in between. I suppose what I am trying to get across is that I am extremely aware of what it take for the circus to happen and for the circus to move.

Over the past 12 months or so I have been toying with idea of trying to change things up a bit and as of yesterday I have mutually stepped away from a company I worked with for the last 5 years.

After a chance encounter with a team manager at a rally event, he made me aware of this:

I understand that this is probably "top of the game" stuff and one must get the relevant experience in a more intimate setting however it did start of a train of thought that I have found very difficult to shift.

So, my question to the wonderful and extremely knowledgeable people that you are is:

Is this a viable avenue to chase for a 27 year old professional music event manager with no experience in motorsports logistics?

I am willing to make the sacrifices that may or may not be needed but if my ship has sailed then so be it.

Any and all advice and/or direction is greatly appreciated!

I almost did a degree in Motorsport Logistics over Event Management but the music got me. No regrets but I am extremely curious as to the viability of getting back into it at such a late stage.

A friend of mine, former Grad Programme at DHL has been keen to get involved in the F1 side of logistics etc. He said it is a nightmare to get in, even as an experienced 'home grown' employee.

I would apply generally for DHL and then try and work your magic... Good luck!

My son is at Uni doing Motorsport management and logistics,he is 25 and is no way the oldest one on the course.
One of his tutors put his name forward when M-Sport contacted the college looking for a parts person.He is there full time between terms.He travels up sometimes with a guy in his 40's,so it is never too late.Go for it.

I thought that would be the case, it seems to the "halo service" DHL provide so I always thought it would be difficult to get into. Thanks for your reply!

Any do you mind me asking what experience if any your son had with motorport or cars before he started?

I love cars and anything that goes fast but I would be a fish out of water trying to figure out how to do anything other top up my oil or jump start a friends a car. I can guarantee I can figure anything out fairly fast but its not like I have been surrounded by cars my entire life.

Do you think this is detrimental to do completing the course? I am much more interested in the moving of teams from race to race, the logistics behind that, being 3-4 tracks/countries ahead of yourself.

Thats a great idea and I will! Can you think of any other similar companies like Radical that would be worth sending a CV to also? I have a hitlist but don't want to miss out on any!

Well off my head there is also Britcar, Excelr8 Motorsport (who run Mini challenge) or Bute Motorsport who run GT Cup. Or you could approach MSVR or BRSCC who both run a load of championships.

He worked at a VW tuning/service place in the parts dept,then moved onto a trade parts company.The last place promised that there would be no selling involved on his part,just processing orders,that soon changed and is what pushed him into trying doing something better.
