Discovery Sport will be very different from Evoque.
In what ways, can you give us some details?

The Evoque is different from the FL2 as the latter is an older design by many many years.

As for each model being distinct, I cant see why with the launch of the new RR Sport which I love, anyone would buy a RR?
The Evoque is totally different from FL2 because it's a different type of car. Drive them both and you will e that they have different appeal.

The RR and the RRS are very distinct from each other. Personally I would have a FFRR over a Sport every time without hesitation. I like the spaciousness and feel of the RR, others like the cockpit feel of the Sport. They are both great cars but different.

I just don't see how full fat rr is worth 3 times price of evoque - one has 2.2 dsl and other has 3 litre dsl , both go well on / off road , have lovely interiors and good image . I am disappointed with look of new rr , as with p45 and L322 the standard wheels are too small and look stupid on it.

We've got a 5dr Dynamic auto in build at the moment, we looked at approved used but 1 year old cars were actually more expensive than buying brand new - though it helps obviously that we got 10% off list smile

As I understand it there will be two brands. Range Rover - Luxury cars from small to FFRR
Discovery - A two model brand, more lifestyle, surf boards, mountain bikes type of stuff. They will still be luxurious but not in the same way Range Rover is. Think a high spec Discovery from 2 years ago versus a then new L322 with all the toys. Similar equipment but different packaging and aims.

I can see the Discovery brand being the model aimed at the sort of people who might actually take the car onto a hillside - not off roading but nearly, tow horseboxes and the like.

Land Rovers latest TV ad confuses me. it appears to be all about Defenders, and outdoorsy people. Perhaps getting the customer ready for the new Discovery brand.

There will be 3 groups eventually and there could be as many as 6 models in each in the fullness of time.

A third brand? I hope it would be a utility brand - Defender would be a good name!

Assuming I am right, I think they will have a fight on their hands unless they can produce something cheap that will appeal to the farmers/emergency services/trade/military.

I wonder if a designed in UK but built in local markets idea would work there? South Africa, India, Mexico, China. Gets round import taxes, ticks the local content box in many countries and means the cars can be sold at a price that is attractive. I know they do this with the FL2 in india.

The Evoque is a decent vehicle but it's a long way from a RRS or a Defender. The rumoured 7 seat version (which will have to be much bigger) and the new Discovery Sport (Freelander 3) will fill the gaping chasm between the Evoque and the RRS. Presumably the new 'Defender' will need a few model variations to help fill the yawning utility gap between the current version and the D4.

Land Rover range - basics (?)
Discovery range - utility (DiscoSport, D5)
Range Rover - style/luxury (Evoque and Evoque+, RRS, FFRR)

TBH I think the current top-spec versions of the Discovery 4 are maybe too close to the Rangie Sport end of the 'Utility vs Luxury' scale. - I know that if I had the budget for one, I'd consider both (new or used). I'm not saying that the Disco should be like a Cuban jail inside but my concern if I owned one (I do actually use my D2 off-tarmac) would be damaging all the delicate trim etc. by using it "properly".

They're certainly close on price and the high-end Discos are fairly plush but they are significantly more utilitarian - inside, to drive and cosmetically than the new RRS - it's not a huge step from there to the FFRR. I guess that's the idea though: A sliding utility vs luxury scale rather than either/or gaps where potential customers fall into the arms of other manufacturers.

The Disco4 would be great when used properly. I've done some light scraping around the woods and it was fantastic. It didn't seem that delicate.

I've been off road in most of the cars, including the Disco 4 and the new Range Rover Sport. All are great off road, even the F2. The Disco, RRS and FFRR are all very distinct from each other and I'm sure will continue to be even when the new Disco arrives.

They are great when used properly...it's just that you need sump etc. guards, HD front & rear bumpers plus a set of rock sliders before you can really push them without worrying about tearing things off.

Take a look at this YouTube channel to see just how far you can go with them. cool

The RR Sport used by one of those guys has had the rear bumper torn off a few times...unfortunately I don't think there's an aftermarket alternative yet.

Thanks for the videos. Excellent. Coming back down looked a bit squeaky, but the Disco does give off an aura of invincibility from behind the wheel.

Pffffffttt!

All you need is a sump guard to get easy access to front recovery eye, a decent set of tyres and a can do attitude.. wink
Front bumpers are very tough and can take all sorts of abuse, the rears pop back into place with a gentle ( firm punch ) tap... hehe

Hmmm...grumble, grumble.

I've seen what happens to D2 OEM rears; they look a mess after they've taken a hit. - When funds allow, I'm replacing mine with a HD bumper but I need to get rid of the "plow" on the back first and fit a NAS hitch.

I also need to get rid of those side steps and fit some sliders. - Until then, I'm being gentle with it. smile
