E60 M5 Valuation?

Hi all,

New to the boards - I've had my 2006 E60 M5 for 3 1/2 years now, and looking to put it up for sale, as it's really not getting used, but I'm not sure at what price.

Details are...

06 plate
47K miles (bought with 26K on)
Full BMW service history
BMW extended warranty
New clutch, fly wheel, starter, alternator fitted this month under warranty

Black Sapphire Met
Black leather
All other goodies - Sat nav, HUD, etc - no modifications

Is 19-20K around the correct price?

That's a little ambitious for a private sale, a quick look on AT suggests £16-17k. Obviously depends on many other factors, e.g. how new the tyres and brake discs/pads are, how long left on warranty, full leather, options, etc.

This one is on sale for £15k.

Surely the brand new clutch, flywheel, starter, alternator and transferable BMW extended warranty add some value?

I'm not sure what's an option and what's standard. It's got:

High beam assist, sun roof, TV, tinted rear and rear side windows, bluetooth, full leather.

Rear pads were changed a few months back - I've not changed discs, but BMW say they're fine. New tyres fitted last year.

I traded in mine recently at BMW for 17.5k

it was fairly similar:
2005 (55 plate)
46k
FBMWSH
perfect paint/wheels
x4 Michelin PS with < 1000 miles on them
New discs and pads all round with < 1000 miles on them

so based on that i think maybe if you should be trying to sell yours for around £17-18k private.

That's a very good trade in price! The tyres and discs/pads all round were probably good selling points as that's £2-2.5k worth.

Best idea is probably for the OP to get his own trade in valuations and work from there.

I might give BMW a shout then - just want a normal commuting car now, as I have my toddler in the back most of the time, and the rest I'm just in traffic so it's a bit of a waste having the beast. Might be able to trade it against a 2-3 year old 320d

Have you tried WBAC? Useful starting point and then add a few £ks on.

£17k feels about right.

If you're stuck in traffic a diesel might not be the best idea...
Also depending on the miles you do, the depreciation on a 2-3 year old car will probably outweigh any fuel savings.

Hi,

As mentioned, your asking price is rather high and would certainly put people off.

Don't get me wrong, the E60 M5 is one of the best cars ever made, with the most stunning engine and soundtrack, but the marker is the market and it's better to be realistic and remember the old saying "the first loss is the least loss".

They're very hard to sell privately.

Eastern BMW in Edinburgh may well be interested in buying it. They're honest and straightforward to deal with.....Gordon Malcolm is their M-Power guy.

Not sure guys, his spec is good, miles low, big jobs done and warranty on. Try going out finding one like that, from experience they are very few and far between, usually a lot of bluff and stories. And when you do find one you have to pay for it.

Op if I were you if stick it on at 19 and see what happens. You can always reduce. And it only takes one person looking a great car over a good one.

IMHO slightly too high but...

The clutch is a good selling point but it doesn't necessarily add value. Would it on any other car? It's a consumable.

Brakes are 2k all around and at 47k on the originals(?) I would say they didn't have too many miles left in them. Throttle actuators will also be worn and a cause for concern @ £700 ea plus fitting.

Is the warranty transferable and is it the one that increases in price @ 60k? Those make a difference.

A savvy buyer will pay a premium for a well sorted car but there are many out there that just want an M5. Stick it up for 19k and see how you get on. If you're not desperate to sell what have you got to lose.

To sell id say about £15.5k. On autotrader all the same cars are sat there week after week.

Some up around £16k have warranty and recent work done.

Just had a look on Autotrader, couldn't see anything under £17k that looked any good. Ones with under 60k at around 15k all had crap spec no extras makes them harder to sell. My opinion but black is not a great colour for these. Only looked at cars unto about 18k but nothing I would have bothered going to look at.

When I was looking for one last year I wanted under 60k, in either of the blues,the full leather dash option,active seats,logic 7,heated rears,,split folding rear seats,digital TV,recent clutch/flywheel, recent discs, BMW warranty, decent tyres premium make,very very tidy condition. It's difficult to find one in top condition with good spec and sensible miles BMW warranty etc for sensible money. I found one but had to live without heated rears and have a rear blind instead ! Good spec low miles well looked after warrantied ones will always sell as they are hard to find.
