The EU and NATO want to move it's borders eastwards to Crimea and it's all supposed to be Russia's fault.I'd say Russia is showing enormous restraint as opposed to if the West had tried the same thing in the 1960's/70's.
It's 'its' you fking halfwit.
I'd guess there'd be plenty of people saying that to all the EU supporters if the st really hits the fan because they are so fking thick.

Well so far the only one doing any border moving has been Russia
As a preemptive move to draw a line in the sand after all the previous NATO eastward expansion and obvious intentions in this case.
Because the Ukrainians are incapable of thinking for themselves?

I wont let facts get in the way of an argument, but where Russia occupy for freedom, is coincidentally a mass gas route pipeline network entering and distribution to other counties. Russia has also increased the gas price to the Ukraine vastly.

Also just south east of Crimea Putin is building a billion dollar mansion.

facts such as these hold great weight as to the direction Russia is heading.
No real surprise there.Putin is an old fashioned Commie based on typical commie thinking that everyone in Russia is equal but some are ( a lot ) more equal than others. The way to deal with that is as before leave them alone.Unless they bother us.Then unfortunately it's a just case of game over being better than a Russian win.

hehe

I applaud your attention to detail: in the face of XJF's lunatic ramblings ranging from the advocacy of a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the Russians, swinging back to dribbling on that they are no more guilty of overt military expansionism than some fluffy Beatrix Potter creations scrumping a few carrots in the neighbour's allotment, you have actually nailed him on the punctuation.

I think, however, your assertion of 'halfwit' is more than generous. Try to be more objective in future. "Eighthwit", I reckon.

If you're scouting for opinions about a new PH username, I think you'll find a broad swathe of approval for your new proposed moniker.

At least the EU seems to have plenty of willing volunteers ready to face the st storm that the present course is sooner or later likely to result in.

Not me.The usual identifying feature would be along the lines of let's start a war with Russia.

Indeed. I was attempting to converse with one of our other resident Space Cadets. XJF might like to think the thread is all about him, but it really, clearly, isn't.

The best thing for 'the thread' is to make the case for settling the issues in the region in a way which stops further fighting between all sides.

Giving Russia whatever it wants is not settling the issues though.

Just sacrificing Ukraine on the altar of EU timidity; they're much happier waging economic sturm und drang on southern europe where they don't fight back, facing down a man who wrestles bears is a bit red blooded for the eurocrats and he might send them a polonium sandwich.

Russia already has what it wants - Crimea - thanks essentially to EU and US misjudgement. That's why Russia now needs - and has needed for three months - a negotiated settlement. And why 'we' don't - keep Russia on the rack, make Putin pay a price, so let's fight to the last Ukrainian (and anybody else caught in the crossfire) to make Putin pay a political price.

(Because TV pictures of Russian speaking refuegees fleeing a victorious Ukrainian army, and sepatarist fighters being rounded up with their hands in the air, will dent Putin's image and popularity at home, whereas a peace deal will be perceived as a victory everywhere).

Dissembling troll is obvious. It wasn't thanks to anything other than orders, weaponry and 'plain clothes' troops from Russia.

It's not the EU/NATO looking to expand East and corner Russia (how do you corner the largest country in the world?), but it's Ukraine, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, etc who wants to move West, for fear and deeply rooted hate towards Soviet/Russia.
