Hello about to buy an e46 m3 as a second car. I would really like the csl airbox but I can justify spending 25% of the cars value on one. Do these come up for sale second hand? or if you any other ideas about how to replicate the sound please let me know. Thanks a lot

It's not as simple as just plug and play with the airbox - Have a look on M3cutters and you'll find loads about it there.
There are other options out there for the carbon airbox, Alpha-N and some others too but it seems people have to tinker quite a lot to get it working properly.
Either way, it's an expensive mod given the value of E46's these days, no matter if you go genuine or aftermarket.
As I said, M3cutters is the place to go for info on this.

The cheapest option is a Geoff Steel Racing carbon airbox which is about £1,300. Factor in about another £600 for a remap at Evolve and that's about the cheapest you can do it. There are a couple of other hoses etc required and having an SMG equipped car means a few additional bits and bobs. Not mega money, £150 odd IIRC.

The GSR boxes do occasionally come for sale second hand on M3 Cutters and are usually a few hundred cheaper than new.

Just bought Evolve's carbon box for 3k fitted and mapped. Had to go back and get the map tweaked (for free). Car has performed faultlessly and sounds AMAZING also gained and extra 30 bhp. It's expensive but for me it was worth every penny.
