I run around 84*C most of the time. Though it can get high 80's in traffic.
Is this oil temp you are stating?

So, do we know what temperature the standard stat actually opens at then? If not I guess I'm going to have to plot water temps from an OBD reader and see where it settles.

Also, is constant running at 71 deg C detrimental to the cats, or any of the engine parts? If ours was just used on track, then it wouldn't be a problem - but as it's mainly used on the road, I don't want to mess up the everyday running.

I'm happy to try a change, but just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.

I'm willing to try this as Neil said just a 5 min job to change and he can check it before & after, i did this to my old tuned scooby and it did seem to run better, but all cars are different so if it doesn't work then back to the normal stat smile

cats, dont care.

Engine wear, potentially yes. But whether this reduces it from say 200k to 150k....I doubt it would even be that much.

If you dont have a chargeheater, if your engine isnt pushed hard, doesnt get used hard, then there is probably no point in a colder stat. At least certainly not the coldest offering which is 71deg

My comments obviously arent directed to that group though.

But the OEM does run at or around 100-110degC mark...which to me is insanely high. Ive seen a couple of OEM stats and they were labelled as 92 or 96, but there may be higher ones also.

Even on a standard engine etc, I'd still prefer to have coolant temps around 90degC and not really going much higher. It just gives that little bit of headroom before anything gets too hot.

All the OEM one's Ive had are higher. But mine were all US.

Maybe Aus/UK run them slightly different ?

Just a thought, I've got the torque app & odb reader so I could monitor the water temp with that?

79 deg C wink

Can you have a look at the old one, and see if that has a temperature rating on it, when it comes out please?

Unusual for a stat not to have a temp stamped into it.
