Just fitted a new Girling brake master (without servo, etc) and while the system bled ok the brakes now won't release. Is the new master faulty or have I damaged it during bleeding by bottoming it out or something. Or is there something else that's causing a non-release of hydraulic pressure? Suggestions and solutions appreciated.

Assuming it's the same type, I had this with an old girling MC it was the cylinder getting jammed in the more, dismantling it and cleaning out all the crap sorted it.

Most likely the pushrod that connects the brake pedal to the master cylinder piston is too long. You only need to push the piston in a very short distance to cover the return ports which will result in the brakes dragging and eventually locking on when they get hot enough.

Usually the pushrod and clevis is threaded on older systems so the length is adjustable.
