I'll keep it brief - I renewed my driving licence and it's come back with a full bike licence on it (A and AM)

If pulled by the police, will they know from the computer it's a mistake?

Also, am I right in thinking if you have a full bike licence you would have worked your way up and be showing P, Q, A1 and A2 in addition?

Just wondered, thanks in advance.

Are you sure it's full bike entitlement?

I have it too, as does my other half.

Neither of us has done any bike test.

Use the new online checker which will explain your entitlements in an easy to understand fashion. I'd post a link but I'm on a phone and can't be arsed.

The DVLA do not make mistakes.

If a replacement licence omits any groups that you used to have then it becomes necessary to retake the relevant test.

This is why a motorcycle cop re-took his L test (after umpteen years of service) on a fully liveried Police bike a while ago.

It follows therefore, that if you have accumulated additional groups, courtesy of the DVLA, for which you haven't passed a test, it is your birthday.

I may have got the logic a bit wrong.

I've just checked mine. Looks like it's for tricycles.

Presumably reliant robins and Morgans?

Has it got (79) anywhere near the A? As a recent thread about this showed it wasn't a full bike entitlement but tricycles only as above.

Rule Number One is to take copies and/or scans of everything that one sends to DVLA before sending it wink .

This is more to do with losing some of one's driving entitlements rather than gaining them, admittedly! hehe

That's a provisional bike entitlement I'm afraid. The 79 next to full category A is the givaway.

Box 12 next to A with 79 I think means tricycle only, moped is AM so from that I don't think you have full motorcycle entitlement

DVLA have changed the catagories so much over the years no one seems to understand, my bike catogorie is D but it was passed early 80's

Although I bet on your licence you have the ability to use the following:

C1
D1
BE
C1E
D1E

Without having to take further tests.

It's because of harmonisation of vehicle categories across the EU.
Tricycles used to be part of your car (Cat B) entitlement, but it's been moved to motorcycles now which has required you to have a (all be it restricted) motorcycle category on your licence.
