Hi guys/girls, as the title suggests. I have been looking into a proposal but have no idea what will be a good location. The budget will determine the answers so I'm looking to spend around 200 to 300 .

All suggestions welcome,

Regards,

£200-£300 to get to the location coming from where?

Do you mean for that money to cover the transport costs, hotel stay, or just to pay for a night out somewhere special?

Edinburgh is a nice place and women seem to love it. A nice hotel at this time of year isn't the cheapest.

Go to secret escapes or Mr and Mrs Smith and pick a nice spa hotel somewhere with a decent offer. Job jobbed.

Bruges? Romantic, and plenty of beer for a Beermonster.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I should have made it a little clearer, I am located near York so would want something close to home in order to maximise the budget! By that I mean not wasting it on just geetng somewhere and then the end product is well disappointing!

I haven't looked at Bruges yet but I will take a look and see if it will be worth a trip aborad. If it was better to increase the budget and wait a little longer perhaps?

Bruges is accessable from York via Hull, direct ferry to Zeebrugge.

I took my wife to Paris for a long weekend and got engaged on the Eiffel Tower. Not very original but it had the desired effect.

See she wants to go to Paris but I just think for the money I would have to lay out it could be better spent in another way . I will have a look at Bruges and see what deals I can get. You had experience of the place? Good and bad places to go?

You've got a point.

Op - propose at the top of the tower. Win.

Op - as you're planning on marrying this woman, let me give you an insight as to how this goes....

A) if she wants to go to Paris, Paris you shall go.
B) what you think is completely irrelevant to the discussion
C) any outcome that is not in keeping with the above will result in a lifetime of resentment and turmoil....

Get to Paris, that's where she wants to.go.

Go to Paris and extend your budget this could be the first and only time you do this.

I think Paris or Bruges would be great as a location, I'd been to Bruges with the now wife several times before, so she wanted to try somewhere 'new' when I suggested a weekend break, and it was a genuine surprise to her when I proposed to her on the tower. it is the city of love by reputation.

Neither of us fell in love with Paris though, and don't have a strong desire to keep going back like we do with Bruges.

The horse drawn carriages in Bruges could be a good venue for a proposal if chosen.

Wise words.

If you go anywhere else and it turns out less than perfect it will be your fault.

There's a lovely place in Bainbridge (Wensleydale) called the Yorebridge House Hotel. Having said that, for maximum effect I'd go for Paris - although i proposed to my finance in our back garden after she completed a treasure hunt for the ring. Came as a complete surprise and was the most romantic thing that has ever happened to her (her words).

Other than the ring, it didn't cost a penny....

She's making me pay with the wedding and honeymoon though wink

I think your point is extremely relevant!!

I forgot that I was dealing with a woman (here comes the abuse), i know her choice is the only choice. I think I will just have to increase the budget and go for broke as they say.

I really do like the look of Bruges so will have to make my mind up and just got for one.

I do like the cheaper options (as being part Yorkshire) but it just wont live up to expectations, will it??
