What would be the usual weekly turnover for your average pub?

I've just seen an advert on Gumtree advertising a General Managers position for the pub on the local estate, and it states the average weekly sales. Considering their clientele is the same load of workshy scumbags day in, day out, I was quite shocked at the figure.

ETA: ah wait no, it says expected sales, so maybe not what they've been doing

That's a bit like asking for the price of a car!
The pub I used to manage averaged about £23k per week, but that included rooms, mate used to manage a BIG weatherspoons and would do well over £40k. This was 6-7 years back.

How much were they quoting in the add?

£28k a week. It's what'd be classed as fairly rough with a regular clientele but I don't know if this is what they've been doing or what they expect it to do now Toby Carvery have taken over

The Clifton

Years back that used to technically be my local when I lived in a caravan up the road
Back in those days it was all dark brick its had a few makeovers since there.
Strategically placed near the motorway and having a car park it used to be a good spot for "car park deals" ranging from shoplifter hauls to the buying in of counterfeit crap that ended up further up the road at Whyndyke or so our friend at the Trading Standards told us.
The turnover figure you mention does seem quite high though. I can try and find out what the Crown Carvery/ No 3 is working on but not till after the weekend

It can get pretty high but the variables are many location, food v wet type of clientele etc...

Back in the day I used to own a town centre pub that was virtually 100% wet sales add food into the equation and sales / turnover could be very impressive profit on the other hand...

It's profit that counts - not turnover (as for any business).

Maybe they have a thriving drug business behind the bar to add to the turnover?

I'd suggest you don't consider taking the post on if you think all the customers are work shy scumbags.

To be able to afford to drink in a pub you'd probably need to have a decent income and in my little experience they're not bad sorts in locals.

Used to bank a pub portfolio....

The best I'd heard of (not mine) was a huge weatherspoons in the city, on a busy Thursday (pre-crash) it would push £70k on a Thursday and be about £200k for the week.

Not exactly a pub,but Novikov in Mayfair ,which is 2 restaurants and a bar in Berkeley street
does about £800k a week, £40,000,000 a year.

No disrespect, but you must live in a nice area. Where I stay most pubs are only kept open by those who don't work. They are in there every afternoon and at night. I have no idea how they do it. Any day you can pass one of the local pubs and there they are outside having a smoke. Not only that but nearly every local pub around here has a bookies next door or over the road.

A pub is like a petrol station. Customers come to the premises for one "headline" reason but almost all of the profit is made from selling them other things. Or best of all, taking their money and selling them absolutely nothing (the gaming machine).

Haha, I don't want the job, it was boarded up when I went past so I googled to find out if it had finally been closed down.

It has a long history but it occupies a reasonable size. Could have ended up a Tesco Express ! though if memory serves there big one is just behind it ?
Has that one on the road past the hospital closed yet ? that was supposed to be in difficulty ?

About 15yrs ago the manager of a town centre pub told me that they could take £2k a week from their gaming machines, not sure if this was net or gross though.

Yeah the big Tesco is just up the road from it.

Which one past the hospital? Which road? There's a few around there!

ETA: For those talking about turnover Vs profit, that's irrelevant. I'm not interested in how profitable the business is, I was just somewhat surprised at the how much the locals are putting through there weekly.

At JDW prices, that is a hell of a lot of pints of beer and plates of food. Being in the city, I expect they would be shifting lots of cases of Champagne to hit those figures.
