Did we get carried away with how good the World Cup was?

I wonder when the early memories have faded whether it'll be looked on as favourably?
It's being talked about as the greatest ever but for me after the group stages ( with the exception of a couple of games) it wasn't that involving.
I also recall previous World cups where, even before the tournament, literally every other car and thousands of houses here in England were be decked with flags etc and I don't remember that this time.
Perhaps it's just me but the media are good at talking things up.

That's because in the past idiots had convinced themselves we could win. This time, even the idiots realised we had no hope.I thought it was a great world cup.
