As above chaps-just bought a new Honda PCX125 with matt paint (didn't actually realise it was matt until it turned up-hey ho!). How is best to wash it and generally care for it? I'm not a hardcore detailer but I like keeping stuff looking clean & tidy.

I can ask at work for you tomorrow, we make some special edition cars in matte paint so I'll call in to press cars and see what they recommend smile

Great, cheers! I've read horror stories about using shampoo with wax in it makes the paint go shiny-I don't really fancy ruining the finish in the first week when I wash it!

I use fairy and water, hasn't affected the finish.

Harley Davidson do a spray for cleaning Matt paint jobs, spray on and wipe off with a soft cloth. Don't polish.

To save Fleegle posting, here's my suggestion

1.spray with a fine mist of petrol
2. Once soaked light a match
3. Throw in direction of scooter
4. Run.

Mitzy trapped my hands in the freezer at 19.57 to stop me posting

Thanks anyway, that's great advice

I thought the accepted way to care for matt paint was when it gets dirty, apply another layer of paint? silly

I've bought some Nanolex stuff for our matte bikes. Works like a charm. I've got the shampoo, cleaner and sealer.

Apparently they use Autoglym interior foam stuff. They also said 'Go-Foam' is good too.

One of the blokes in there's son has just got a matte colour Peugeot scooter and that's what he uses on that too. He said to make sure you do it out of the sunlight though or it'll go smeary.

I just use autoglym fast glass to wipe the matt plastic on my bike ...seems fine 2.5 years later

wash as normal with regular car wash stuff

thats the appeal of the matt black finish i.e. east of aftercare/lack of polishing required smile

Swissvax does an "Opaque" range of products specifically targeting matte paint. Probably quite expensive mind.....

And it works too. Has sorted out the matte finish on my 883 a treat.

And...
5. Spelling matt as matte doesn't make your reply more authoritative than others.

I've just come back from an adjacent shop looking for the opposite - slimey silicon cleaner to put on the trials bikes plastics, helps stop the dirt sticking!!

Anyway, did notice Simonez do a wax free car shampoo - wondered what use that would be but makes sense now. Also seen aerosol matt finish dash cleaners.

I have at home a satin finish Armorol pump type can of cleaner that I use on the Superduke - also use it on the seat, cleans bugs etc nicely but not slippery - best applied onto a dishwashing sponge first rather than direct to the bodywork.

That list is only missing about scraping it daily down the side of decent bikes as you force it into a space that isn't there.

Cheers for the help. It's a tool to get me to and from work, rather than anything for a Sunday morning ride. A superbike would be a tad overkill I think wink
