Something interesting I've noticed...
Over the past few races, with Lewis breathing over their shoulders, his forced team mate, world championship leader, Nico Rosberg to make a mistake, go off track, luckily coming back on track still AHEAD of Lewis, and nothing being done, costing him the win...
he did the same to 2 time WORLD champio, Fernando Alonso yesterday, pressuring him to make a mistake, over running a corner, AGAIN luckily coming back on track AHEAD of Lewis, AGAIN, no action taken, costing Lewis second place...
Finally, putting so much pressure on 4 time world champion Seb Vettel, that he ends up backwards on track.
Something NEEDS to be done about drivers who make mistakes like going off track, and no punishment getting handed. They SHOULD be giving up the place.
just saying...

One of the best races in ages and after reading this thread I struggle to believe that some members on here even like cars and motor racing?
Quite. Too much tribalism, not enough recognition of some seriously good racing.Joffery666 said:

Yes I agree with this - to be fair to Vettel though, that spin cost him badly. But Alonso missing a corner does grate ever so slightly. Nico's corner missing was worse IMO but let's just hope when the shoe is on the other foot; the same rules are applied. Even playing field and all that.Over the past few races, with Lewis breathing over their shoulders, his forced team mate, world championship leader, Nico Rosberg to make a mistake, go off track, luckily coming back on track still AHEAD of Lewis, and nothing being done, costing him the win...

Quite. Too much tribalism, not enough recognition of some seriously good racing. What I find surprising on this thread is the near total lack of comment on how well Ricciardo drove yesterday.
Not just wins, time and again he delivers with low profile, rarely if ever controversial pure talent. Driver of the day for me and not much Safety Car assists for him either.
I said it much earlier in the season and it's worth repeating. Ricciardo appears to be an exceptional talent even compared to established drivers as well as the few other very promising new or rookie drivers on the current grid.

Nico's first interview on german tv was the blubbery one, but I am guessing you didn't get that one. Several interviews later he has had a few run throughs and calmed down, then its to sky and the beeb whereas hamilton goes straight to beeb ... perhaps ponder that.Just added for balance. They are all petulant spoiled child egos but ham gets all of the attention.
I would wager that the 'haters' feel very uncomfortable that this guy has many times their fortunes, owns and drives the best/most exciting cars on the planet, bangs the popstar, pisses about in exotic locations for much of the year, etc. This bile then spews forth into vitriolic drivel.
Hamilton will get a severe talking to from his team after disobeying his boss. Having said that Mercedes were pathetic by not having Paddy/Toto/Niki making thyat radio call to him.
Be interesting to see if he gets as much stick as Vettel did for disobeying team orders.
Edited to say that if it wasn't team orders then Hamilton did the right thing. Though it does smack of a cock-up at Merc and not knowing what or how to tell their drivers the instructions.
I do wonder how that team would cope if they weren't quite so far ahead of the field. Can't help but feel they'd lose the drivers title through their errors.

Hamilton drove a near faultless race IMO.
Rosberg - why he or the team didn't make their final stop around 3-5 laps earlier I'll never know. Maybe because he was moving on to used options, but that would have been my call and then the situation would have been defused and he may well have taken 3rd...
Ricciardo - a lot of the chances fell his way and he took them with gusto. He also drove a near faultless race, certainly the last 3/4 of it.
A great race with a lot of changeable variables being thrown at the teams! Weather and a couple of Safety Car sessions.
Just a shame we've got the Summer Break now.

So hang on a second. Vettel ignores team orders and hell breaks loose, Hamilton does it and he gets support?bloody hell if this is not the pure definition of double standards then what is?
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy watching drivers defying team orders and go race, hats off to Hamilton (not a Hamilton fan) but come on...

I quite like that he is p***ed off when he doesn't win. After all, if he just got out of the car having cruised to fifth and said "Well, I'm rich so who cares that I didn't overtake anyone today", would that be any good?
No, he has lots of money, lovely cars etc BUT still fights like hell (as most of them do on the grid frankly regardless of wealth and in some cases talent) for every race.
Isn't that what we want to see? The drivers fighting hard and racing wheel to wheel?
In the race pre-show, Sky showed an interview with him from earlier in the week and he said pretty much that. No, he has lots of money, lovely cars etc BUT still fights like hell (as most of them do on the grid frankly regardless of wealth and in some cases talent) for every race.
Isn't that what we want to see? The drivers fighting hard and racing wheel to wheel?
The question was posed about him looking miserable when he didn`t win, his reply was along the lines of "I`m here to win, I don`t want to finish last and say "yaay, I`m still driving in F1 so I`m happy regardless", if I don`t win, I`m not satisfied..`
Cracking race, really enjoyed that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the race yesterday, was a great event from start to finish.

Watching the highlights this morning and noticed all the team trucks parked up next to the track.
How many trucks do the teams have?
Obviously Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari will have more than Marussia and Caterham. What are they used for?
Would be interesting to know how many are needed for equipment, hospitality blocks, merchandise, etc.
AFAIK 2 per team for the actual race gear, holding the cars, garage equipment, computer bank, spares, tools etc.How many trucks do the teams have?

The hospitality palaces that they all seem to have now are another one or two.
Or Mercedes with Ferrari next door.
Then you have all the the gear in the pit and paddock, the cars and spares, all the hospitality gear for the motorhome, etc. If you can get that into four trucks I would be very impressed.

the armchair experts have just awoken from their slumber...
Once again, Mercedes themselves have stated that it was NOT a team order - in line with their philosophy. It was a request that Lewis ignored. Fact. Mercedes have stated that Lewis did right to ignore the request. Fact. All pundits, professionals et al have stated Lewis was right.
Don't let all of these facts sway the soap opera for you...
Also, eccurie, your bias is obvious... may as well step away from the keyboard now. I have praised Ricciardo numerous times. I think he's the next superstar; or at least it's likely... but you / like others here - no names mentioned come across as bitter individuals. Shame.

You're not really comparing like with like though. In Vettel's case, his team mate was right up his chuff and was visibly being held up. That was not the case with Hamilton as Rosberg was nowhere near him. RosscoPCole said:
There seemed to be a lot more than four trucks per team. For example how many trucks would it take to transport their 'motorhome' around? Just look at McLaren's.
Or Mercedes with Ferrari next door.
Those things are like transformers, they collapse, slide together and all sorts. They are massive though!Or Mercedes with Ferrari next door.

I don't think anyone really thinks they brought them to significantly impact the actual fuel use in F1 by teams in a racing year? (at least I don't)But the propagation of technologies developed in the course of it should impact the wider industry - look at the first generation of hybrid super cars - I wonder if we would have seen such interest in those without the F1 drive as well?

At the risk if getting involved with another of these threads, I do think there is a difference in the two situations. Vettel was told to stay behind Webber, defied the order and put both cars at risk in the process.Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy watching drivers defying team orders and go race, hats off to Hamilton (not a Hamilton fan) but come on...
Hamilton was asked not to hold up Rosberg if he caught him. I don't believe Rosberg got close enough to be considered held up, he could only just get into and stay in DRS range
