I have an air rifle I bought a couple of years ago for getting rid of a rat problem we had. Its now just left in a cupboard and I would like to get rid of it. Can anybody advise the best way of doing this? I know you can't just plonk it on ebay.

it used to be illegal to sell an air gun to anyone under 14, not sure now.

Gunstar is your best bet.

Although you could try a note in the local newsagent window or googlecto see if there's a local gun club.
Some gun shops will buy used air rifles, but they tend to offer peanuts - especially if it's not a part-ex.

Airgun bbs is another good site, but you need a few posts before you can sell stuff iirc.

Bah, if I had some spare cash lying around, I'd snap your 'and off here and now.

Really want to get another Weihrauch to replace the one I sold when I moved away aged 18.

Leave it in your cupboard for another year while I save up.

I believe sales are against forum rules, but out of interest what sort of money are we talking?

Oh, nearly forgot the relevant info. Law now states no sales to under 18's, and you can also get into trouble for not taking steps to ensure that it doesn't fall into the hands of a minor. So face to face sale or PayPal account holder if by post.

This for me too.

I wanted to sell my .22 as I have a shotgun licence now, but the price I would get for it I just thought Ill keep it for the rats etc if needed.

The real problem these days isn't selling it, it's finding a way to post the thing to the buyer!

Since the law changed to say that under 18s MUST not be allowed to get hold of it, all normal delivery companies running scared of accepting them; Royal Mail is still supposed to take them, but allowable parcel sizes make it very difficult, and you may not be able to insure it for as much as it's worth if it's a higher-end gun. You could send it via one of the other delivery companies if you don't tell them it's a gun, but good luck claiming on the insurance if it goes missing...

When I bought my shotgun, I think from memory it was 45 quid for P&P with TNT and some special service.

Wasnt cheap!

Iirc a lot of gun shops now offer a reasonable prices shipping service between shops.

So you take it to your local shop and they see it delivered safely to your buyers shop. The buyer then collects.

Posted 4 rifles so far this year with RoyalFail. They insist it must be sent by ParcelFarce as that requires a signature at the other end and by someone who must be over 18 (This is NEVER enforced!). But you can insure up to £500 value with them.

I think £400 worth of rifles going to elgin cost me £35.

If at all possible even if they are 70 miles from you cash on collection or deliver it for the £20 in fuel you will use.
