So, the starter motor on my 1.6 Roadsport is mullered (solenoid fails to fire when fed directly from a battery) and I've got a Powerlite RAC 430 coming on Wednesday from the cracking guys at Fernhurst Motor Company.

Has anyone fitted one of these? Is there any modification required or is it a direct fit? The reason I ask is that my exsisting SM has the spade connection for the solenoid trigger and a large threaded connection for the power however, there seems to be a third wire running to the front of the car (I've not traced it properly yet) but the Powerlite unit only has the spade and the main feed connections on it?

Is the third wire on my original starter simply an earth?

There is an earth wire attached to the start motor mounting plate. The starter only has the two wires as you state.

There are more wires to my starter. The one that goes forwards attaches to the alternator.

I've just come out the garage having traced it and you're quite right, it goes to the alternator.

Should be a fairly simple swap over job...........

Right.......mullered starter removed (with much swearing and sweating) ready for the new unit that should arrive tomorrow.

As soon as that's done it's up on the ramps and the new oil pressure sender can go on - I'll be blatting by tea time!!
