.......A brilliant programme! It took a measured hour and a half to pull back the sticking plaster myth of the the 'California dream' and look at the festering puss beneath. Sharply written, critically, though fairly presented, it gave me a fresh view on things I thought I knew about. He also did a programme on the Texas oil barons last year that's also worth seeking out. More please BBC! (in best Points of View Voice)

Yep, missed the fist 30 mins but will catch up on that.a great insight, a refreshing presenter will have to look out for his other documentaries.

Yes, very interesting. Made me laugh when he started backing away from that stupid hippy in the park in San Francisco.

Yep watched this on Iplayer just last night. Very interesting, good few laughs if you like Rich Hall's style but even if not worth a watch for sure. Did think the part on the importance of music was perhaps a bit overdone, but given the presenters interest in that musical genre probably no surprise.

Will have to look up the Texan oil baron one, if its as good then already looking forward to it.

If you are going to look for it it wasn't about Texas oil barons per se but Texas in general titled: You Can Go to Hell, I'm Going to Texas

He's rapidly becoming my favourite documentary maker / presenter on the beeb. That California one was great.

He's supposed to be the basis for Moe the barman in The Simpsons.

I thought it was really good but I like Rich Hall and have a fascination with California.

He is very good at deconstructing the myths of America and California is ripe for being picked apart.

It was excellent. His use of English is fantastic - intelligent, insightful, witty and not a little jaded.

I love his style.

Brilliant programme.
The Associates.
the hippy movement.
Shockley...funny how a racist st helps found Silicon Valley.

The park hippy, excellente, reminded me of the Emperor of the United States.

“He had shed no blood, robbed no one, and despoiled no country; which is more than can be said of his fellows in that line.”

Not seen it yet but heard universal praise - one for the iPlayer tonight.

I love Rich Hall's comedy, have seen his alter-ego Otis Lee Crenshaw many times.
