Reflective Foil
Discussion
Gents,
Did have a search (quick), but didn't get what I was after. Am at the stage now of finding some reflective foil for the rear bulkhead and so on. Have been on the Nimbus site and seen this: http://www.nimbusmotorsport.com/ProdShop2.asp?id=8... , is this what I am after or are there other suggestions. I remember sometime ago there was a few links but as said I cannot find them.
Sorry for bring this back up again!
Cheers,
Lee

Great timing of topic, Im looking to heat insulate the cabin on mine.
Im noticing the nimbus stuff has heat insulation and a reflective film where the DEI in the link above is just the reflective material/film?
Im thinking its worth the extra for the insulation too I would have thought?

Have you ascertained where the heat is coming from ("Deeeerrrr - The engine" I hear you say )? I've been spending time looking for the cause initially (rather than addressing the 'symptom'), as this will (in all likelihood) have a far greater effect.Im noticing the nimbus stuff has heat insulation and a reflective film where the DEI in the link above is just the reflective material/film?

pay attention to the point where the rollgage goes thru the rear bulkhead to the cabin. I use a split seal on this area that has a alloy ring with a piece of rubber that seals against the tube forming a complete seal. I noticed a change in noise and heat when I added these seals on either side. Lee
The Nimbus material came rolled, but it still had some folds in the roll which are hard to remove due to the fiber mesh in the insulation material. The insulation material is quite soft, then it will be near impossible to keep the surface coating in perfect immaculate conditions. Nevertheless it looks good.
For the upper part of my engine bay bulkhead, I think that I will put a simple gold reflective foil, as the isolation + reflective is much heavier.

I will check the weight this evening if I don't forget.
The Nimbus isolation + reflective has a 2mm tar like sticky base with probably a stabilizing glassfiber mesh in it, with a top reflective layer of gold galvanized aluminium. Depending of the installation in the engine bay, I think that it can be a good solution for the gas tank surfaces facing the exhaust if the manifolds are close to it.
For the other areas, I plan to use the thin light gold fold where needed depending of the testing and/or feedback from the experts.

In fact I mixed up two materials from Cool-It:
- The heat and shield, Thermo-Tec anodised gold heat barrier has a glass-fiber cloth below the film, but no tar. It weight 12.6gr for a surface of 10x10cm.
- The heavier stuffs with tar are the sound insulation material; the Thermo-Tec Supersonic acoustical mat and the suppressor.

You can find one picture here. It hasn't been updated since several month as I rather spend my limited free time building than posting:
