Help me book a holiday

A bit last minute, but I need your help - please.

I have managed to secure a week of from my current employer from Monday 25th August to the 30th August. My family consists of two adults and two children (11 and 9).
We would like to go for a city break over this period of time, say 5 nights.
Not sure where to go, where there will be enough for the kids to do etc....

Budget is around £1500 max and we would consider Apartments or B&B options.

Any ideas where to look? We are not really ones for lazing by the pool, more of walking and tourist attractions.

Barcelona.
Rent an apartment off one of the sites like www.ownersdirect.co.uk, holidaylettings or villarenters.
Vueling are cheap if they fly locally to you.
Alternatively, Palma, Mallorca.
