I have an early Mk1 'on the firm' now! Since the theme here is sports cars and classics, i'm feeling inclined (with a VERY low budget) to go a little retro with the Mazda, including the way it drives. The Mazdaspeed front bumper and rear spoiler are already off to be replaced with standard ones. Maybe a Gold Leaf paint scheme is in order too. Over time it would be nice to get a little intake noise going - the car is early enough to fit carbs. Also tempted to go down from a 14" rim with a 65 profile to a 13" Minilite, with a classic 80 profile tyre, to get the thing moving about a bit! Any thoughts or ideas?!

Try a cotton cone type filter. Plenty of intake noise on the cheap. Unless you're going for a ITB type setup it probably won't get better than that and it'll not be cheap

Like the look overall, not that rear spoiler! The major differnce in appearance for me would be to go Elan with the wheel/tyre sizes, to get a nice tall profile

Oh if you got a 1.8 13 inch alloys wont fit over the callipers. The picture above is pretty perfect to me modern version of the elan.
Also the worst part about the mx5 for me is the 4x4 ride height 45mm drop makes it look a lot better handles better specially with proper adjustable coilovers not ebay st.

Go for ITB's, you know you want to. Same noise as carbs but with less headaches keeping the thing running.

I plan to lose the reflectors from the bumpers at some point on mine. Bullet mirrors, lose the aerial etc.
