Thinking about getting an XF 3.0D, have looked at a couple but found a 2011 Luxury with 65k and pretty much ready to pull the trigger.

Have read quite a few reviews but has anyone got anything I need to look out for? Have been round the car and looks straight enough/drives well and comes with a 3 month jaguar warranty or optional 12 months for £600.

Any advice appreciated!

Is it an approved used car? Should come with 12 months warranty as standard. I'd either negotiate for that or find one that does - I bought a 2008 XKR last year with the 12 month warranty included in the price.

I had one for a few days as a courtesy car. Absolutely loved it, the engine is tremendous and the build quality and waft-factor were all present and correct. I realise I'm preaching to the choir though. Good luck!

2011 was the changeover year, is it the old shape or revized shape? Mileage would suggest it's come off lease,if they've got plenty of provenance with the car and full service history, at that mileage it shouldn't suffer DPF issues if it's spent its life up and down the motorway, plenty of life left in it.

It's approved in the sense it's from a jag dealer - stratstone, but they are only offering 3 months - should mebs push them for 12.

It's the old shape one, but yep it's a one owner, fsh car. Newer shape ones seem to be a jump up in price.

Cheers

Ah, Stratstone seem to do that a bit - selling Jaguars that haven't been through the full inspection etc. that AUC cars get, alongside AUC cars. If it's less than I think 10 years and 10k miles then an approved-used car will come with 12 month warranty. If it only has 3 then it's probably not a "proper" approved used car in the official Jaguar sense of the term.

Depends how much value you place on that, I'd say you're no better off buying from Stratstone than from an independent dealer in that case and they're probably charging more than an indy would too. If it was me I'd want to do a third-party inspection first, but that's just me - I may be overly paranoid with these things.

Makes sense as that's who I bought mine from (Wolverhampton). I paid for the full bells & whistles Jag warranty and I've only needed it once - AM tuner wasn't working. The car has been perfect/no problems otherwise in the 2 years I've had it.

A 3 year old car should have a years warranty IMO. I'd push the budget if you can and get the facelift. Many improvements, not just to the looks. 8-speed box too.

However, SOGA will cover the car upto 6 years anyhow.

Thanks for all the replies. Ideally a years warranty would be good, so I'll ask when I go in tomorrow. They do have another car which is a 2011 premium luxury but with slightly more miles for similar money. That one is jaguar approved so I can check if it comes with 12 months. Unfortunately budget won't stretch to a new shape without selling my car (Px ing the wife's golf) and I'd rather not do that.

Also can I ask what sort of mpg your cars are returning as reading some reviews jaguars mpg figures are very optimistic?

Driven a bit hard this morning, I got 32. But last week on a 200 mile trip to Newcastle taking it easy-ish, I got 48.

I bought my XF five weeks ago from a JMD. It's 5 years old, 31500 miles, Jaguar approved used car. It came with a full Jaguar 1 year warranty with an option to extend on a yearly basis if I so choose.

48 on a run is pretty decent, can't complain at that and cheers I'll take a look at the jag info site.

Can I ask, when you say it included 12 months warranty was it at no extra cost over the purchase price? Only reason I ask is when I initially went through the costs, they included 12 months warranty, gap insurance and some paint protection thingy all of which were individually over and above the purchase price of the car to the tune of about £1k.

I negotiated a deal involving the purchase car and part exchanging my S-Type. Car sales people will always want to start by doing a deal on the purchase car and then a second deal on the car you're putting in. Trying to get them to do the lot together is not easy. In the case of my recent deal I told them what I expected from a JMD...a decent history of the car, Jaguar approved used car, year's Jaguar warranty, fully serviced with new MoT, fully taxed for a year, etc..and did a deal on the forecourt price on that basis. It meant that it gave me little room for negotiation on my S-Type but, overall, I was happy with the deal in total.

I was also aware that this car was on the forecourt for about a month and the price had just been reduced which I took to assume that the JMD would have limited wriggle room so the deal I wanted would likely to be more difficult to achieve

I've just part-exchanged my Leon for a 3.0D S Portfolio 2010.

Are you sure that you really want a Luxury rather than spend a bit more on a Premium or even Portfolio spec? The better trim levels come with lots of lovely kit as standard and some nice options as well (keep giggling like a kid every time I activate the electric sunblind on mine).

I didn't really feel like Stratstone wanted my business when I enquired about a 75k, 2011 Premium Luxury. It was an ex jaguar management car, but only came with a 3 month warranty which raised questions about how confident they were about the quality of the car. Bit of a shame as they're my local dealership and it would have been an easy sale. There was absolutely no negotiation on the screen price which really put me off, and the advertised price was dropped by £500 a few weeks later.

In complete contrast, Ridgeway Oxford couldn't do enough for me. Within a couple of hours of my enquiry, I received a personalised video tour of the vehicle, all of my questions answered, a good negotiated discount on the screen price and a decent trade in value on my car. The car had 58k miles but came with a full 12 month warranty.

Although I had been watching the vehicle on the classifieds for a while, I'd always discounted it due to the distances involved. They had no hesitation in offering to bring the car over to Milton Keynes for me to test drive, pointing out the scuffs on the front bumper and confirming that they would be rectified before delivery to me.
I remain deeply impressed by the level of service and I can't recommend them enough.

Sport mode is very addictive on the 3.0S, which means I'm getting around 30mpg on my daily commute right now smile

Well deposit is down! I ended up going for the other car I was looking at which was a silver 3.0d premium luxury with 69k. Not sure if its all standard on the PL, but it has reverse camera, heated seats, heated windscreen etc. They upped thier px offer on my car by £500, given me 12 months warranty at for £298 (half price), and waived the rather cheeky (IMO) admin fee of £70.They will also sort some of the minor issues like the curbed front wheel and make sure all the tyres have at least 4mm.

Thanks for all the advice above, very much appreciated.

Went to view the car I put the deposit on today - it was at another site but they had said they could bring it up. Had been told it was mint so a bit unimpressed. First off it was covered in stone chips. Bumper, bonnet, wing, sills and mirrors looked like they had been sand blasted. There was a pretty bad dent in the rear quarter from a car door and numerous other marks around it, some of which may polish our to be fair. In the interior, the drivers seat bolster was worn, the plastic trim on the drivers seat was cracked, and the gear select wheel was covered in dents and marks. They have said they will get back to me with what they are prepared to sort bit looks like its a no-go. Not expecting a new car with it having a good few miles on, but was expecting it to have been prepared a bit with it being from a jaguar main dealer.. At least the despot is refundable so I can either pick another car it get it back

Also I'd left my raybans in the waiting area by accident and some git has pinched them which is a touch annoying!!

Not good! But there's plenty around, so I'd try other dealers.
