What options exist? I'd like 2TB ideally, not to bothered about SSD to increase boot times etc. I just want a reliable large hard drive to upgrade the piddly 500gb one in it.

Reason for upgrade is the last of us has a 50gb update on day one so pretty easy to see 500gb won't be long enough for long.

Last of Us is a 50GB download if purchased digitally as opposed to an update, no? There is no way the update would be 50Gb.

I went with a 1Tb upgrade on day one. I think I read that when you go bigger than 1Tb the dimensions of the drive can start creating problems.

From what I've read it's a 50gb update day one patch, not an expert by any means though.

I've also read as long as it's under 9.5mm tall it will fit and Samsung do a 2TB one and wondering if any other options.

It has to be a laptop sized hard drive and the ps4 is capable of anything up to 2tb. I put a 1tb on day one.

Ive just bought a seagate momentus 1tb hybrid for mine, I'm happy with the physical installation but can i copy all my game data to a usb drive before i upgrade?

Im happy with doing the game saves but i don't fancy downloading digital copies of games at 50gb each frown

Anyone?

Dunno sorry Duncs, I did mine on day one so I had nothing to transfer, not even profile data.

Not a huge surprise. If you could copy it then it would be far too easy to pirate games.

Does it not have the HDD copy feature the PS3 has?

I thought that just did game data rather than actual digital games? I could be wrong though.

I believe it did both. I recall using my new HDD in a caddy to copy the old ones Data to and then copy to PC, then swap HDD's around and reverse the process. With regards to PS4, there is even less differntiation between install 'game data' and downloaded games. They're essentially the same thing, just a slightly different DRM mechanism.

Sorry to bump this chaps but seriously thinking of upgrading my Hard drive in the next 3 weeks. ideally want to get a 2tb one (that storage tho) but will be happy enough with a decent 1tb one.

Had a look on scan and amazon etc and looking to be roughly in the £70-90 bracket for a 1tb variant. Any recommendations?

looking at this?

That appears to the same or updated version of the Seagate 1Tb hybrid drive I put in my PS4 on day one. So far, so good

This is the bookmarked link I had to the one I bought from Amazon: here

I've just had to uninstall some games so I guess I'm also in the market for an upgrade. Is 1tb enough these days?

1TB is a big upgrade over the 500GB on PS4. Off the top of my head the system software takes up slightly more than 100GB of space, maybe 110 or 120GB, leaving 380-400GB free for 500GB drive, and 880-900GB with 1TB. Going from 500GB to 1TB actually gets you about 130% more space.

Obviously it all depends on your personal usage as to whether 1TB is enough or not...

if you're happy undoing a couple of screws a cheaper way of doing it is buying a Seagate Backup Plus 2TB (the drive is currently £67.96 on amazon) opening it up, unplugging the connector attached to the hard drive and swapping it with the one in your PS4, as a benefit you can then put your old PS4 hard drive into the caddy and you've got a 500gb external drive for free.

FYI the drive inside the external hdd is only 5400rpm which is the same as the original drive in the PS4, there's not a great deal to be gained from a faster drive unless you're an ultra competitive gamer looking for a few more FPS
Also the larger sizes of the backup plus dont fit, for instance the 4tb is too thick.

Here's a guide on how to replace the drive using the seagate one
