Love these but the prices are dropping, is it the normal jag depreciation or are they not as good as I'm hoping?

I think they suffer a little for lying in the grey area between being cheap to run or an R. Most who realise that MPG isn't the be all and end all are drawn to the XFR. Those who think MPG is the be all and end all are convinced they need a diesel. It leaves the SV8 a little lost in between. Good car though - but it's closer to the S-Type R than the XFR in mechanical terms. There's no reason to avoid them. I think they represent excellent value.

Thanks, one of the best answers I've had on pistonheads to date!
Have loved the new shape jag for a while now but didn't think a fun version (petrol v8 fun) would be in my reach, do fancy a fast saloon again as miss my rs6, but all the German cars don't look as nice as this, need jag knowledge now , wiki here I come lol!

Loving my recently acquired XF 5.0 V8 Portfolio +. No supercharger but still 380 BHP is fine for me!

I think these too are a bit "in between" cars: people concerned about MPG will go for a diesel whereas those wanting serious grunt and a V8 will go for the XFR. Mine, and the S-V8 maybe, sit in between, somewhat unnoticed, and can be good forecourt value.

Another XF that I have on my radar is the latest Supercharged 3.0 petrol, it has the same engine as the F TYPE 3.0 but in 2-3 years time it will have dropped in value well below it's 3.0 diesel equivalent. Look at the first generation XF 3.0 petrol usually a few K less than the diesel 2.7 or 3.0. I wonder how many 3.0 s/c XF Jaguar are actually selling in the UK?

I have a 2007 S-Type R and it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Great fun to drive.

(I also have an XJR and XKR but the S-Type really is something special)

I beleive the XF SV8 has exactly the same 4.2L Supercharged V8 producing 420bhp.

I reckon it'd be a great car and they're cheap because they aren't quite the "R".

Go for it!

If I was in it for the (very) long run I'd be looking for an SV8 or 4.2 V8 over the later direct injected 5.0 cars I think. I'm not normally conservative like this, but I want to see another 5 - 10 years of trouble free (non coking up) DI petrol engines before I spunk any serious sum of money on one. The 4.2 is a brilliant engine and very well proven.
