Hi,

I noticed a couple of days ago that there were a lot of flies in the conservatory, I didn’t think much of it, assuming they flew in when the door was open. However, yesterday I went in and it’s infested with them! They’re black and yellow and quite small, I think they’re hoverflies. I have picked one up very carefully and it didn’t sting me, nor did it seem that bothered, so I don’t think they’re wasps.

Some are tiny, others are quite large, so I’m thinking maybe they’re breeding in there. I read they don’t use nests, but would they use the valley at the top of the apex inside the conservatory to breed? I can’t reach up there to look on the ledge to confirm.

What should I do with them? I’ve left all the windows and doors open but they don’t seem interested in leaving and I don’t want to kill them unnecessarily. My girlfriend vacuumed most of them up, but there are still quite a few left.

Thanks,

Dan
