Help me with a poem
Discussion
A friend is turning 40 and I've been asked to write a small message for a scrapbook his wife is preparing.
I wrote down a few thoughts about him and us, which I'd like to translate into a funny poem. You lot are an imaginative bunch so I thought you could help!
Here's what I have so far:
The little brother he never had
The big brother I never had
Some people believe I might be an incarnation of his old self
He sometimes relives his past through me, and my liver mostly
A collection of Tuesdays festooned with acronyms
Always up for beer burger and bourboun
Always up for sushi sake and sake
Hazy harsh hangover Wednesdays
Occasional bouts of Tourette Syndrome
Rare weekend "free passes" from the misses used to catch-up on long lost time
Always there to share good times and commiserate bad ones

OK five minutes of effort:
My mate he never thought he
would make it through to 40
He's just like my brother
we'll down yet another
we've gotten too old to be naughty
The past is a sake-filled haze
forgot if there were good old days
I felt pretty haggard
after he had both staggered
home after spending our pays
Now that you're over the hill
Less sake will give you your fill
We're not out on the trot
'cos our livers are shot
but a pint goes down smoothly still..........

One Golf R for the Launch Control's pride
One Golf R for the times we Tearful
One Golf R gotta stay alive.. .I will survive
One Golf R for the city streets
One Golf R for the hip hop beats
One Golf R oh I do believe
One Golf R is all we need
the day has come to celebrate
so raise a glass to a special mate
Pour another, and raise a cheer
'clink' your glasses and down your beer
40 years he's been around
always in sight often in sound !
Drinking, swearing and drinking more.
be it, beer, Sake or L'Piat D'or
He is married now, aint life cosy
we are lucky to know the real Jose
a decent guy, like no other
One im proud to call 'big brother'
so raise a glass to a special mate
Pour another, and raise a cheer
'clink' your glasses and down your beer
40 years he's been around
always in sight often in sound !
Drinking, swearing and drinking more.

a decent guy, like no other
One im proud to call 'big brother'
The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother..
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go

No burden is he to bear

Thanks all for the inspiration, I've taken a stab at it and unashamedly stolen some of your great ideas. Thoughts, comments and piss takes welcome!

Go down with a loud cheer – 6
Occasional Syndrome of Tourette – 9
In much trouble together we get – 9
The past, a sake-fuelled haze - 7
I’m sure they were happy days – 7
Hey, Saturday night fever – 7
This chap is a right Geezer! – 7
For a moment, let’s be serious - 9
Although sometimes he’s nefarious – 9
He’s a decent guy, like no other – 9
I’m proud to call him my Big Brother – 9
In Jose a true friend I found - 7
Happy birthday, it's your round! - 7
