Currently I have a Canon 70D which I am sort of happy with, but I feel I am making a compromise on things I am bothered about with things I don't really care about. I've got dual pixel AF for constant AF during video recording (I've recorded 2 videos with it), it's got Wifi remote shooting (I used it once when I first got the camera), I can pull images off the camera using wifi (it's slow and battery consuming in practise) and I would rather sacrifice some of these features for better image quality and low light handling.

I initially switched to the 70D from a 550D as the AF was hopeless, I still want to do some motorsport photography so I still want something that can track objects accurately, and I don't feel the 6D will be up to this task (although I will happily be convinced otherwise). I have been tempted away from Canon by the fact I can get a D610 with the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 lens for £2100 whereas a 6D and Canon 24-70 f2.8 would be £500 more.

I currently have a 70D, EF-S 17-55 f2.8 and Sigma 35 f1.4 that can be sold to fund this, so the 'upgrade' will cost me a few hundred. I will of course try one to make sure I am happy with the handling of the camera, I'm just not sure what direction to go.

Is it worth it or would I be on a hiding to nothing?

I am a Canon man and love the 70d it's a great bit of kit.
Buy a 300mmf4 and go and take some pictures with it.

You are talking motor sport but don't have any len's for it or with the nikon if you jump ship.

Stick with Canon - the switch to Nikon will annoy you, simply because the cameras handle in such a different way. Not saying one is right or even better but they are quite different and the difference will get in your way (at least for a while).

Plus, Canon arguably make better telephoto lenses in general (Nikon have tended to make better wide-angle lenses) as well as the more specialised lenses (Tilt-Shift etc), so I'd stick with Canon if Autosport is your thing. The 70D has a very sophisticated AF system, especially when it comes to tracking moving objects, a system which is one of the (few?) places that Canon is better than Nikon.

The image quality improvement that people tout about Nikon is nothing like as massive as people make out. Under weird laboratory conditions, yes their Sony sensors are superior by 2-3 EV but in reality, this is much less and hardly noticeable unless you 'pixel peep'.

If you want to save some money, Sigma make some excellent lenses these days, fast, image-stabilised and well-built - you don't have to stick with Canon or Nikon.

I've got a Tamron 70-300 that I forgot to mention, I think I'll probably spend money upgrading that rather than wasting money moving to a new body/system.
