Having just bought an 05 facelift ZT CDTI and spent ages on the owners forum plus some time sorting the common problems out ~ I thought I'd add a list here in case it helps someone else. For detailed solutions Google and the forum will provide answers, but this is so that you know what to look for.

Apart from the stuff you'd check on all cars these things are regularly wrong, I've had to do all of them on mine.

- Plenums (back of the underbonnet area where the air is taken in) fill with water, use a flexi rod to unblock them, search for 'the spy hole mod' so that you don't have dismantle as much to do the centre one. If you don't clean the drains water gets into the car and covers the

- Handbrake compensator (in the tunnel just behind the centre console) stretches until you can't adjust the handbrake

- Rear light seals leak (silicon sealer / club have had new ones made)

- 2 speed cooling fan resistor fails, bigger one available, with aircon on, fan should run on slow speed. Without the slow speed the aircon gets f****ed up

- Thermostat fails open. Gauge should be at 9 oclock, without the stat it will be a 7 or 8. To replace the stat is a major job, have to lift the engine a few inches to get to it. Solution is Renault Clio in hose stat.

- Minor one, the screen washers only dribble water out. Take access panel off under the bottle, can reach round to pull the pump and filter out, the filter clogs up, wash it out before thinking about buying a new pump!

-Finally, sunroof drains block, but mine doesn't have one so I haven't looked in to it.

They are all problems the need some time spending on them but don't cost much to fix, I've spent about £30 to do them all.

Despite these issues, it's a huge amount of car for the money, I paid £2000 which is close to shed money for a car with a 135bhp BMW engine - the fact that it has a cam chain is something that attracted me, I'm not a fan of cam belts!

The only rule I can see it breaking is the one that says if you link to somewhere else, put the link in the post! biggrin
