No one has cracked the newer 2012 onwards BMW ECU's which is why you can't find anywhere....and many have tried and great expense.

No one is going to crack it now.....not without the IT resources of the NRA or GCHQ.

That's depressing! The gf has got a 120d on order as a company car. I had a rye idea to get a tuning box on the sly to just reflash the ecu - is this going to be the situation for most new cars going forward then?

It happened before on the last generation of ECUs, it took a while before they could be reprogrammed through the diagnostic port, but it was eventually done.

The newer generation are more secure, but there is some hard to get hold of kit that can do them. The big question is whether it is going to get out into the mainstream.

Dinan, one of the big USA tuners, and once the 'offical' BMW-USA tuner, spent over a million dollars trying to hack the new encrypted ECU's and then gave up after 12 months.

Hartge, Schnitzer etc in Germany, have got nowhere either, nor have DME & Evolve in the UK during the past 2 years of them being out.

BMW have put a huge amount of effort into making sure the newer ECU's can't be flashed.......

Shame they couldn't be arsed to put the same effort into stopping their cars being nicked in 30 seconds....... rolleyes

I take it Alpina are keeping the ecu secrets very close to their chest then.

Alpina work with BMW, so they are OK'ed to use the passwords for reprogramming and making the software updates, the rest are generally locked out.
