I've just had my renewal price through for my Golf, been on a classic policy for a few years. The price went up a little last year, however this year it has shot up from £160 to £229.

Rather than look at a specific classic policy I went on the old meerkat site and got quotes from respectable insurers for £145.

Has anyone else noticed a big rise in classic policy prices or is it just me? Seems daft having a somewhat restrictive classic policy for 50% more than a normal policy.

Did you double check with your broker/insurer?

They have a nasty habit of loading premiums for existing customers, but if you query the rise, it may - magically - suddenly become reasonable again.

I've done this for the last couple of years, only to find my (correct) premiums had gone down.

No, I had the opposite. I have now moved all but one car to RH Insurance (Equity Red Star) as they offer me a multi car discount on my classics as well as non classic! Got whole bill for 5 cars down to about £1200 fully comp.

Bit of an update. They rang to see if I was renewing, I told them probably not as the price had increased substantially which was very frustrating and not a way to encourage an existing customer to renew.

Funnily enough the price miraculously dropped by 1/3 back to very similar to other quotes and less than last year's premium.
