Well recently got some paint made up by LKQ Coatings and the paint match was quite out however the paint finish is quite odd in that it's almost too metallic?

Just wondering why the paint is like that as i've never seen this before. It's almost like glitter.

Also can anyone recommend a place to get a good colour matching paint in Crawley area? I originally dealt with JCA Coatings who did a great matching paint however they were acquired by LKQ.

It's difficult to say if it's a bad colour match or if it's your technique of application that's caused it.
The tone of a silver can change just through application - putting it on too heavy or to light, putting it on from too far away or too close, using too much pressure or not enough pressure (hence rattle cans aren't the best things to use as you have no control over the pressure) - all these things affect the way the metallics lay, (as can the lacquer application depending on what type of paint you're covering)

And it's very rare for there to be just one single mix for one colour. For example Ford Moondust Silver has at least 30 different variants in most paint mixing schemes.
So in your case they may have happened to mix the variant which contains lots of fine bright silver but the car you're trying to match might be in a variant that had more coarse silver in it. So they may have mixed the right colour but not the variant that matched your car.

I would however lean towards the problem being incorrect application technique and that you've applied it too heavily.

In short silvers are by no means the easiest to match and definitely not the easiest to apply.
