Anyone got any recommendations for DG in wilts? Just found out that my parents have gone and signed up with a large national who 'I said you buy one, you get one free' after a cold call.

Sheesh. So after they have paid a deposit.... I'm insisting they at least try a local firm before going ahead, and hopefully it'll stop any hassle down the line.

Or, if anyone has any experiences of such large nationals, would be grateful to hear of it.

Good news is they offered a good discount rolleyes

Just had ours done at the start of the month, 4 bed detached, 9 windows plus a bay and 2 doors for brown out and white inners, 7500. Local glazing company who recommended fitter Salters - contact Andy http://www.salterinstallations.co.uk Neighbours had theirs done and after getting 3 quotes they were better on quality and fit time (2.5 days).

Thoroughly recommend.

As an aside, the "buy one, get one free" man drinks in our local when we go to the pub quiz and is a bit of a cock!

We just had Chippenham convervatorys and windows replace our 5 external doors. Absolutely superb from quote through to finished job. Highly recommend and would use again.

I've used http://www.taylormadewindows.co.uk/ for several years.

Great 'old school' service, keen prices and easy to deal with.

Can vouch for http://www.thermaglaze.com - absolutely brilliant job, no hard sell, and gentle & unobtrusive followup enquiries in the past couple of years to see if I was happy, etc.

I also had "I said you buy one, you get one free" turn up to quote before I went with Thermaglaze and quite honestly I thought the whole "double glazing salesman" thing was a anachronism, but the sales guy literally ticked all the boxes:

- Instant hard sell, I had told him as soon as he walked in the door that I was canvassing different companies to get quotes for the work, and that I needed to run the designs by someone else, and had no intention of signing anything there and then. In spite of that I was given the full "if you can sign today you can get £X off" spiele.

- When I reiterated that I wouldn't be signing anything, the guy "called his boss" and moments later I was told I could have even more off! How could I possibly refuse??

- To ingratiate himself to me and to grease the wheels of a sale (I think??) the guy started telling me about how most of his customers locally were elderly people "with money under their beds" and that they didn't quibble the cost at all. I'm not sure what he was going for here because he basically was tacitly telling me that they just quoted whatever they thought they could get a given customer to pay, and the fact he was already offering me something like 60%+ off list after coming down in price twice already made his comments have the opposite effect to what he desired!

- I asked him if he could leave a brochure so that I could show my father (he was in hospital, the double glazing was something I was buying for him as a present for when he came out) and the guy simply said that they "didn't have brochures they could give out", and that I should "just go on the website". Eventually managed to get him to leave the single brochure that he brought with him, which he said he would need to pick up after the weekend..

- ...which of course meant when he turned up on Monday that he had conflated me borrowing the brochure to mean that I was now ready to sign on the dotted line, and when I said my situation was unchanged and that I would be getting several quotes before proceeding with any company he started moaning to me about how he'd "just driven 100+ miles expecting you to sign", etc.

Really, really terrible service - the worst I've ever experienced.

21st century in Salisbury served us very well, no hard sell, unobtrusive installation, were able to deal with the unexpected (no lintels above the old windows) quickly and at a reasonable cost. After service has been excellent as well, they replaced a broken window and a door lock that had a snapped key in it foc.
Would definetly recommend.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll pass them on. Hoping they've got their deposit back ok but will find out at the weekend.

We had a quote from safestyle. What a mistake. What followed was border line harassment! The price kept coming down and the pressure went up. I had to tell them that next time they called I would report them to the police
