Technosport Staples Corner... The person who owns it has an M3 race car, Z4M coupe and when I had my car there there were at least 30/40 cars from E60 M5's to E30 M3's, etc.

I was highly impressed with the level of service for my Ins II on my Z4M smile

I can vouch for them - George is a good guy.
Always some very nice examples in their workshop!

Very convenient to get there too! Their service rate at £70 +vat I suppose is near the higher specialist end, no?

Guys I was looking at this official dealer website (https://www.bmw-service.co.uk/##service-options )

and apparently the Inspection 2 includes the following:

"As well as undergoing a comprehensive inspection, the oil and oil filter in your BMW are replaced along with the all important microfilter. The spark plugs (petrol) or fuel filter (diesel) and engine air filter are also replaced to maintain performance and efficiency.
Check lighting system
Check instrument and indication field lighting, check heater blower
Check horn, headlight flasher and hazard warning lights
Seat belts: check condition of belt strap, function of inertia reel mechanism, locking reel, and belt buckle
Check battery: acid level, charge state
Heating / air conditioning microfilter(s) is replaced
Body checked for corrosion
Diagnosis brief test
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Check coolant level
Check windscreen washer and intensive cleaning systems: fluid levels
Check steering fluid reservoir: fluid level
Replace spark plugs (if petrol)
Intake silencer: replace air filter element
Check brake pad thickness
Check brake disc surfaces and thickness
Check steering components: check for clearance, leaks, damage and wear
Check under-body including all visible parts: check for damage, leaks and corrosion
Check brake lines and connections: visually inspect for leaks, damage and correct position
Check handbrake function
Check tyres for inflation pressures, external condition, tread depth and tread pattern
Replace main fuel filter (if diesel)"

Admittedly a large number of checks BUT very few actual changes.

Importantly I thought that Inspection 2 for the e46 M3 included some work on valves (that required the engine to be cold)? That's missing from this list or have I misunderstood?

You are correct, the valve clearances need to be checked and adjusted (shims replaced) every inspection service. Its worth knowing that some dealerships charge for this but don't do the work (as its basically impossible to check) so its worth going to somewhere that you trust will actually do them.

The engine must be stone cold to check them so needs to be left overnight.

Yes, but you can always negotiate wink

Plus for an Ins II convienience is useful as it should be left overnight.

I found it for £600/£650 elsewhere but by the time petrol, time, train back and hassle were factored in Technosport actually worked out cheaper.

They are happy for you to walk around and look whilst they conduct the work and they actually took a while longer to do my car but only because they were taking their time to get it done right.

If you live local, pop in and speak to them in person and you can see it is a properly run business. smile

Inspection 2 on the E46 M3 includes Gearbox & diff oil changes. Fuel filter is extra(but worth doing).
Valve clearances should also be checked & adjusted.
