Still the long turnaround must have been very frustrating for Team Winstanley.
That was the main part of the issue I believe allied to the fact that it needed those regular rebuilds and inspections.
So it needed rebuilds, I was under the impression it just went off for inspection as part of development and never needed any work doing after inspection.

So the upshot is we think a shiny Ford V8 wouldn't do the new car any harm then?

I mean doubtless TVR won't leave it alone will they

bound to be tuned a bit

Forget S6, it sank TVR.
Mud sticks.
I can't disagree with this statement but in defence of the speed 6 I've had mine rebuilt to the spec that TVR should have followed and what a wonderful engine it is.

D
Agreed Daz, perhaps 1 Cerb taking 3months to build had something to do with it? But it's my fav Tiv... I say an entry level of 4.3builds, sat nav as standard and a TC button as standard for those less confident. Lol

In my mind, when asked the 'Ford or GM' question, I'm completely sold on Ford. They just seem to have the best Motorsport engine heritage and some cracking road engines. Outside of the SBC then LS engines I can't really think what GM has done for us. The only thing I can think of is DTV and then not because of the engines but because of Gerry Marshall.

Ford have built Le Mans engines, F1 engines, rally engines. As you say all the Cosworth history. And all the British engineering. They just seem to me to be a brand that is very deeply ingrained in British Motorsport.

They also build all of Aston's engines and obviously originally built the AJ V8 engines and others.

A coyote powered TVR would be in fine historic company with older Tivs, Cobras and many others.

Interestingly, I was chatting to a very old friend (and fellow petrol head) at my daughters wedding on Saturday, who lives near Dorking, and has met Les Edgar in the past through mutual business associates.

Completely useless piece of information I know, but did provide me with a brief 'small world' moment smile

Chilli

Edited to add this... may be of interest smile

So how much poke has this Ford V8 got any way?

more to the point how much do we think it should have in a TVR ( assuming they can still build a 1100kg car in todays world)

This one would appear to have 661 bhp from a 5.8 litre lump. Would that do you?

I understand the 5.0 in the 2015 Mustang will produce 435bhp and around 400lbft of torque.

Easy 400. And to be honest, that's enough before the market starts expecting a computer to do everything for them so they can concentrate on how the look and checking that strangers are checking them out.

Chevy LT1
that looks like a ls3 with forged pistons, and plus a little VVT trickery...

i do wish they wouldn't re use old engine identifiers though, an LT1 is also a pre LS series engine....

It has gotten confusing. The LT stuff used to be the iron Vortec truck engines.

The LS based VVT stuff that's in the trucks now is all ally and usually just an L like the L92 which is the LS3 with VVT and sometimes AFM

One thing for sure is that Chevy's VVT tech is very clever as they had to design from scratch as SOHC.

Absolutely, can't deny the recent work carried out on S6's is superb and one that the factory should've done in the first instance, but unfortunately they didn't. If they had, I may have kept mine. hippy

21st Century TVR.. Powered by Ford V8.. Engine courtesy of Cosworth.. RWD.. 6 speed gearbox.. Brakes by Brembo.. Suspension by Ohlin.. Track focussed chassis design.. Traction Control.. ABS.. Weight 1000kg.. Power and Torque well North of 400.. Looks to die for, soundtrack beyond belief...

Such a simple recipe.. smile

Well it's nice to dream....

Chilli..
