Hi Chaps, Recently took delivery of my 911 Turbo S... Great car, but struggling with the Sat Nav!!

Planning on doing the route Napoleon Next week.... Starting from Grenoble all the way down to Grasse.... Is there any way you can get the damn unit to make sure it selects the N85 and keeps us on there rather than choosing a motorway..

Failing that I'm gonna have to use an old Tom Tom i guess

Help appreciated

As far as I know, absolutely no car GPS can be told which specific route to take (except which types of road to avoid).

I wish I was wrong.

I do loads of GPS based pre planned road trips and I use a trekking GPS for this purpose, with the route (track) pre-loaded.

I also use an Android phone as backup, running Locus Map software. http://www.locusmap.eu/

I must say that the process is not completely straightforward so I won't try to explain in full, but it involves creating the track (not route) in Google Earth, (unless it is downloaded ready made from elsewhere) converting the track from KML to GPX, and loading it to the device.

Further to the "as far as I know" no car GPS and that includes Tomtoms and Garmins designed for car use can take a pre-prepared GPX file (track) which you can follow simply by viewing it on the screen. (forget about turn by turn guidance, but it's no big deal)

Note "track" - make the distinction, because "track" and "route" are not the same thing in GPS speak and it's a track you want even though in common parlance even as I have above, the two are commonly interchangeable.

You can set up to four stopovers (Tour). If you choose four along the route you want to take you might be able to force it take you the route you want to go. It's explained in the Good To Know App

I did exactly the same thing as you in February in a 991 GT3. What you need to do is force it to navigate via towns or points on the map along your chosen route. You can preset the points while at home, and then navigate to previous destinations while on route.

I actually prefer driving the route from Grasse up to Digne on the D6085/N85, then go Sisteron, Die, Valence. The route from Draguignan up to Seranon is also one to experience...

Enjoy..!
