It's come up a few times. Some have repaired themselves, but others have found old fashioned style saddlers are the best way to deal with the problem.

Got a mobile person coming to repair mine in a couple of weeks so I'll report back when it's done. Tried the DIY route and failed miserably.

Best trimmer I know is Niven Ladd at West Malling - 01732 846906. We use him for all of our custom/prototype leathers when we want to test in a seat. His work is second to none.

That would be helpful vince . If this is a common thing that happens it would be good to know that we can use someone that's been used before

Mine needs doing too, both seats have come apart. I have got some thread to repair them but seems too thin even though its 'extra strong'. Anyone have a recommendation for the right thread for the job?

It's all well and good getting it repaired but you also need to look at prevention as well, getting the rear screen tinted would be an idea if the car is kept outside.

Also use a decent leather cream to keep the leather supple, I use liquid leather but I understand Leatherman on here does some good wipes as well smile

Indeed we do!!!! I'm sure you can find me if you google hard enough.

Just on that, modern day leathers cannot absorb the conditioners any longer as the coating is too high performance and too heavily cross-linked to pas all the OEM tests for durability. So the beeswax and lanolin in a lot of these conditioners just sits on the surface and makes the seat dirtier more quickly. Those old fashioned conditioners are more for pre 1990 cars with original leather with uncross-linked/protein type finishes.

The sad thing is though I have some new leather ready to be cut and put into my car, but it won't be ready to do until after Thunder Road. At present the leather in my car is looking tired as we were trying out a pure Titanium tannage but it just doesn't have the durability.

Sorry i completely forgot about this. No they did not repair as the leather has dried to a point where there is no give in it and thus cannot be sewed. It was quite expensive to get a new piece of leather sewn in as the facing needs to be removed from the seat. Disappointing but there you go!

I took back seat out uncliped & unzipped the leather & left the side that had split into a shoe mender to sew up again, cost me all of £6, winner
