Just been listening to 3 days by Janes addiction, my favourite bass line/ bass playing ever
I'm a bit late to this thread (I like to store up a few weeks of posts here before dipping in to read them all on an evening), so as for the Janes Addiction slant, amazing band, I never got to see them live, but always enjoyed that album.

I remember (must be decades ago now) seeing Perry on the 'Porno for Pyros' tour at the Glastonbury festival. At the time I was in proper luuuvre (lusting) with a girl called Louise (who had purple hair). I was smitten, utterly utterly longing for some carnal action but she just didn't want to know.

Some how we ended up sat next to each other at the Festival watching Perry and the crew playing the Porno for Pyros set - I think it may have been before it was released, it was the most amazing 'never heard these songs before' but loved every minute of it.

No band for me has ever come close to that - and I've dived off too many stages that Curt Cobain was playing on.

Now Purple Louise was so lovely, (remember this is long before the days of mobile phones and texting and emails) she bought the album and gave me a copy on a C90 cassette.

So if you like the Jane's Addiction stuff, the Porno For Pyros is also well worth a listen too. The Percusion/Bass is ace - and of course it all sounds a bit dated now.

but Purple Loise.... where are you now hehe :weep:

I clearly remember watching PfP on Jools Holland (1990, maybe), and specifically the track "Orgasm" where Peter Di Stefano plays the guitar parts with a violin bow - which I'd not seen done since J.P. Page did the same on Dazed & Confused.

Anyway.

Just from that performance on Later, I bought PfP's first album at the earliest opportunity and wasn't the least disappointed.

I saw Jane's Addiction Live last week - review in one word - Awesome...

On the bass line note - how about the intro to Would? by Alice in Chains.

From a similar era Jesus Lizzard - Nub has a fairly funky stomping bass line.

Lot of highly skilled, virtuostic, slappy dappy stuff out there but the really memorable bass lines which become earworms have to be the likes of

Another latecomer to this thread, there have been some blinders mentioned that I hadn't heard, but will keep on listening to....

Loving the Primus mention, but I'd have to nominate Lee Van Cleef for my choice....

not just because she is in the news but Kate Bush's "The Big Sky" has the most grungy bad assed bass sound and so wrong its right.

Thanks for reminding me, one of the greatest live experiences ever, the Jesus Lizzard- forgot about them. Bass player David WM Simms also played bass for Rapeman.

Maxwell murder by Rancid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE1zgrMdxBE

The bass solo from 1 min onwards is great.

Always loved the bassline to Pump it up by Elvis Costello (covered here by the wildhearts):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lGfiajRnVA

I love the constant rumbling of Black Sunshine by White Zombie. It's a brilliant bit of bass:

Loved In The Meantime by Spacehog back in my Indie/Britrock days:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDkhl-CgETg

It's still a great song.

Also I Wish by Stevie Wonder. Or Sir Duke. I just love Stevie Wonder and his basslines are funky:
