Went by yesterday and had a look round the Hunter at Goodwood and noticed it had the hook for arrester gear at the rear, i thought the carrier based versions were called Sea Hawks? Or did land versions have hooks?

Took a couple of shots with the Sierra XR4i which was a similar colour.

The Royal Navy did indeed operate a number of variants of the Hunter - some of which were fitted with arrestor hooks. However, none were operated off aircraft carriers. The Hunter was never designed as a ship borne aircraft.

The Hawker Sea Hawk was an older design and WAS designed as a naval fighter.

What version is this one Eric?

That's XE665, originally an F4 but later converted to a T8C she was owned by delta jets at Kemble but they went bust and now owned by Midair Squadron as a static aircraft.

Had a good look round when I was at the Harwoods day and it's lovely up close.

It's in great condition, when was it placed on site?

Good job you parked your car in the way otherwise we might be able to see the aircraft.
The one of the boot spoiler I especially like.

Can the hunter operate from a grass airstrip or was it just assembled on the day ?

As I said above its a static aircraft. It came in on a lorry prior to the festival of speed and will remain on location until after the revival.

The car is quite retro but not in the same club as the Hunter which is one of the last good looking jet fighters ever built, the twin seat configuration though isn't the most attractive variation but I can understand why it was converted back in the day.

Didn't realise you still had the old jelly mould Tony, re the Hunter i liken them to a thoroughbred classic, terrific looking aircraft.
I've hired the HHA one more than once for trials over the last couple of years and didn't have to ask twice if he could go as fast and as low as he could. To think we paid him to do that, surprised he didn't offer it for free, however £70k fuel bills on top soon sober you up!

Sadly still laid up, haven't had the time for the last couple years, I've been away again, only got back on Tues off again in a couple of weeks. I have promised myself to get it up and running this year though, once I've settled the tax man! Have you Still got the Tam?

Yes, still got it,all legal, but not used much, fallen out of love with it to be honest, needs a few bob thrown at it, been in and out of work for the last 3 years so not had the money to spend on it. They are going up in value, so will sit on it for the time being.

XE665 appears in my old man's log books many times when he was doing his training at Brawdy.

They need concrete strips the, first Hunters were built at Langley then transported to Dunsfold for final assembly and test flying as Langley only had a grass runway.
