One for any BIB that are allowed to answer this on open forum. On an ANPR check is it only the VRN that activates a flag, if VRN has no other flags against it? e.g, if someone put legal plates on another car of same make/model ,but differing colour, would it flag ,with no other indicators .

I think the clue's in the abbreviation: ANPR

(It's the number plate...)

You'd be right, number plates only. Although our vehicle mounted cameras will often try to translate railings, rows of windows and central reservations into indexes, bless 'em. hehe

Nice one, great to see that with all that computing info at DVLA , any vehicle of any make with legal plates won't flag up.No make/ model /colour, just a legal VRN. We had this on a weekly basis, one week "delivery" was in a Purple mode, next week in another colour ,next week purple etc. All in vehicles (SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR) with same VRN . BUT all showing as a vehicle with legal VRN. System has failings, and these are being exploited, IMHO. NO reflection on the users, it's another failure of HMG IT systems.
System looks at VRN and checks if there's VED/ Insurance.MOT on the vehicle - yes = legal
Perhaps it be asking, if should now be interrogating if colour or make/model is as per DVLA records for that VRN.
Reason for the post. For those saying "it's in the clue APNR", that was not my question . I was asking those who use if they [b]could tell me [/]without giving away confidential info on the things looked at.

ANPR looks at the number plate - if it 'looks' legit though it's a cloned registration plate on a possibly-illegal car with perhaps-illegal driver, then 'legit' it is...

This is what you want to hear, I guess???

It's not a new concept (last decade is calling) hehe - if said automated tool used in policing was more efficient (or even worked properly scratchchin as you allude to) then [troll mode] how could I continue to bilk fuel and speed with impunity while uninsured (and possibly unlicensed) to drive said vehicle which also doesn't have an MoT? Just keep changing the plates every month or so for those on other identical or similar cars, get the plates made up at an autojumble etc.. [/troll mode]wink

Jocularity ( smile ) apart - it's not an ideal situation, I will allow you that... smile

PS HMG ICT projects will never be as effective or efficient as they should be wink . "Half-baked" will, as a rule, be a positive description of the final 'product' (just look at NHS ICT systems for examples of ICT products ordered by those in the ivory towers which aren't quite properly 'fit for purpose' at the various coal faces).

what the fk is this guy moaning about?
anpr can't scan the shape and colour of every vehicle to ensure it matches the vehicle the plate is supposed to be applied to so it's a failure of goverment IT ?
high vis jackets don't make the police invulnerable to traffic, and the bullet proof vests armed police wear can't actually stop high velocity bullets.
Is this another repeated failure of the government wardrobe department?

ANPR does give the make, model and colour of the car it should be on. It also provides a photo. I'm not sure what the criticism is here.
