Hey,

So I finally got to meet a hero on Saturday, I've always wanted a clio v6 and unlike most other cars, with time I've only wanted it more.

So I finally bit the bullet and went to buy one on Saturday, I've never driven one before, so went kind of blind (didn't even know if I would fit at 6'7) but all was well.

They say don't meet your hero's and to be honest I was half expecting to be underwhelmed, however I was impressed, it was as good if not better than I thought in the flesh and to drive.

So this one is a 2004 Mk2, done 34,000 miles (on the high side for these believe it or not), it's in great condition, completely standard, bodywork/paint is good, with just a coupe of touch ups needed, not bad for a 10 year old car though.

My plans are just to keep it original and drive it as little as possible, the only 2 things I want to do are fit the aero blade wipers and when I can afford them install the recaro trendline seats that were available on these from the factory.

It's then just a case of enjoying it in the summer, trying not to put too many miles on it, and hoping to break even (takin into account insurance/maintenance/tax etc) or perhaps even profit.

These were selling for about £10,000-£11,000 2-3 years ago so they are climbing already.

Anyway, here's some rubbish iPhone pics, more to follow.

Lovely!

I always wanted one after being around them for 2 weeks when at work experience at TWR when I was 16, the sound in particular left a lasting impression.

Who buys their dream car to not drive it that often? Values of these are steady/climbing slightly no matter what so why not enjoy it?

Who said I wasn't driving it?

I just mean save it for the special occasions and days out, rather than using it for the daily commute or tesco shop.

Less change of knocks and dings that way and less "wasted" miles

Lovely car (and colour) what is the seating position like? One of the reasons I sold my 172 was because I could not get on with the driving position.

Bloody hell you're a big fker arn't you.

It looks like a toy next to you!

Well done for diving in, let us know how it goes.

Any idea on how much the seats cost?

Proof that, every now and then - maybe once a decade or so and 'ordinary' manufacturer will go completely bonkers and release something that is more than just bolt on bits and show, and make something truely crazy and iconic.

Looks great! smile

I predict that as the economy recovers and the arse drops out of the classic car market, these will be one of the cars hardest hit (plenty around with low miles and not really old enough to warrant the money they are currently doing, also Renault isn't a particularly well regarded marque).

Awesome car and really cool but as an investment I think you'll get burnt.

I don't understand how you'd be able to have "wasted" miles in it? Surely every time you go near it the smile it'll put on your face means the miles you put on it are never be wasted?

Good buy - I've always liked these. Think I'd find it too difficult not to drive it much though!

Escy, I do disagree and hope your wrong, but then I would say that tongue out

A mint (but standard) 900 mile car sold for around £46,000 this week to a private collector, so there is hope. (I know this is a different league to mine but a good sign none the less)

Martin, that's what I'm struggling with at the moment, it's helped by the fact that to get it on and off the driveway I need 2 people, 2 planks of wood and 15 mins

Do it, cant recommend it enough, despite it being "Just a Clio" to most people it just feels special and feel more proud to own a piece of motoring history than any other car ive owned.

I do love these, how can you not?

With regards to driving it, i find if you have access to a nice car/cars you make excuses to go to the shops if it is a nice day! I do anyway smile
