Prompted by the thread about the E30 M3 and whether or not it should be driven in the fashion the owner enjoys, I welcome the PH massive to contribute to PH's most eccentric daily driver.

By eccentric I mean unconventional, what is not ideal for the duties it is performing. However, to the owner, its imperfections make it the perfect daily driver.

I currently run my Chimaera 400 as my everyday car. I'm sure there are many out there who can top this. But what are they?

I drive a defender daily...

It's loud, slow, not particularly economical and has it's fair share of dents and scratches.

Why do I keep driving it?

Easy to maintain,
I can use and abuse it
Car parks/door dents don't worry me
I can carry all sorts in the back
I can sleep in it
I can climb on it
It will last forever

Yep, I use my old shed to do supermarket runs, garden centre visits and general running about to the tune of about 12k miles p.a. It's a hatchback so is reasonably practical.

Fair play on the Tivs and the Lancia but a BMW 3 series?? Surely not that impressive wink

I love these threads... it’s great to know that in the sea of poor, downtrodden, miserable blokes in Vauxhall people carriers, or people who’ve spunked a fortune on a VAG diesel in dreary grey to match their dreary grey lives, that there are still people who stick to fingers up at the mass market and sensible choices.

My only car is a 1969/70 Volvo Amazon 133... It’s BLOODY HOT in the summer as there is no air con or even face-level air vents to help cool you down. Car is also black with a black interior which really doesn’t help (and I only wear black clothes so that really, really doesn’t help!).

It needs a bit more spanner time than a modern car. It’s not particularly economical (might be something to do with my heavy right foot, mind). There is always something to be done (got to have a look at the rear brakes next weekend). And if I crash, I die... no airbags or safety stuff for me

But;

Every time I drive my car it’s puts a grin on my face... and I arrive at work in a good mood.

I’m happy to be classed as eccentric - dancing to a different drum, and all that.

Only slightly eccentric, 1991 Honda Prelude INX Auto.

Had to do a 200 mile round trip today, set cruise control to 109kph (defacto speed limit) and wafted along. (All single carriageway).

The reason for the journey was a bit strange...

The accountant I used up until 3 years ago was up for sentencing in Timaru District Court (NZ), theft of 110,000 pounds from clients and his own firm to fund a lifestyle.

Got 2 years and 3 months prison.

I found another accountant as I was suspicious of overcharging.

My mum uses a 1972 TVR M-Series as her daily driver. Slightly worrying for a woman who once managed to spin a diesel Discovery!

I see what could be considered unusual daily drivers on my way to work in most mornings -first one and Orange Dolomite Sprint, and then probably twice a week at least, a Honda NSX

I got the LC on the road for Le Mans CLassic after a number of years off the road and right up to last week I was using it as my daily - I'm not using it as a daily right now because I've taken it apart again!!!

Once it's back together again I'll start using it daily again so I can work on the E38 and replace all the suspension arms and bushes

A VX220 has been my only car for 3 and half years now. About 50,000 miles. And it's still worth what I paid for it.

Had to laugh at the thread about PXing Hyundai i40 somewhere, £6200 depreciation in just 2 years. 2 years ago you could have bought a VX220 for that.

Why people don't factor depreciation into running costs is beyond me.

Not particularly unusual I suppose, but I've been using my Elise as a daily for the last seven years.
