Hi all. I have a 2009 Q7 4.2 TDi. It's pretty quick but after a few years of use I'm thinking if getting DMS to upgrade it via a remap. The claimed gains are huge: +65 Bhp/+95 lb/ft.

They offer a mobile service ie just come to your place and upload it.

Does anyone have any views on:

1. DMS (generally and Q7 specific)?
2. Whether the Q7 4.2 TDi takes well to being remapped?

Thanks all

I've no personal experience with DMS.

4.2s do like a map very much; I haven't driven a Q7 4.2 tuned but have an A8 and that felt almost RS6 quick.

Please tell me what brands of fuel/tyres you buy so that I may invest in shares wink

I used DMS when I had my E46 330D, they came out to me & uploaded the new map. The wrong map.

I then had to drive approx 1hr each way to meet up to get the corrct map uploaded.

It made a big difference in performance, economy improved fractionally.

A few thousand miles later at 30k miles it ate it's turbo, no idea if it was related or not.

Probably - suggests they've either wound the boost up to the point the turbo is over-speeding or disabled something in the ECU that should act as a safety limit on the map, basically amounting to the same thing.

Sold it shortly after the new turbo was fitted so no idea if it happened again.

The newer the car, especially diesel, the bigger the risk when modifying the ecu. Lots to go wrong and loads of interrelated systems that can be wrecked by careless modding

Like I say, I've no personal experience with the tuner in question but their adverts do offer larger gains from software only than the brand specific tuners do.

So are you planning on going ahead with this, or are you going for something a little more conservative? I have a 4.2TDI too and would like to see what benefits you get wih power/torque and potential economy improvements.
