Hi all,

One of my many directorships (sic) is a domestic cleaning company. All is going well, and, as you would expect, we have built up a huge wealth of cleaning tips/suggestions like "I spilt red wine on the dog - how can I clean him up?" or "I have an alarming blood spatter pattern up my wall - any tips?"

What I want to do is collate all this and make it available to our staff who man the phones. We would advertise this service locally and to our existing customer base. In fairness, it is just to help build our name on the local area, and will not directly be used for money generation.

As with anything, the results are often directly proportional to the execution, so we want to remove any liability if the results do not live up to the customers' expectation.

Is it as simple as stating that the information is taken at the user's risk and we cannot be held responsible for any results based on the information?

Thanks

Eric Mc

In my view - no.

Who is going to take advice from an organisation that has no faith in the advice they are giving?

Having read back my original post, I realise it sounds a bit like that. However, we are absolutely confident in our techniques as they are what we use on a day to day basis.

What we have no control over though is how a customer applies our advice. Much in the same way that if you read any cleaning product you buy from the supermarket, it always says "test on a small discreet area first to ensure blah blah..."

If you get insurance cover that is specifically designed for the cleaning industry, then this has extra cover including professional indemnity. This covers any advice given.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the message. Seeing as I got my insurance from you, I really should have just remembered to drop you a line! hehe I'm having a slow monday...

I will drop an email over to one of your team as I do not have my paperwork to hand at the moment.

Cheers!

Professions (such as mine - accountancy) are essentially based on giving advice. We do not tend to say in our blurb to clients that we are not liable to how people implement the advice we give. However, we do take out professional indemnity insurance (it's actually a requirement of my professional body).

Just want to say thanks to Jon's team for once again being on hand to answer my relentless flow of noddy questions about my policy I have with them.

My current policy doesn't cover this but I renew in a week or two so will be in touch to discuss an upgrade to my policy smile

As always, thanks!
