About to buy a dishwasher, does anyone know if it's worth fitting a water proof socket on the wall behind it? like an outside socket job?

Previous owners of my house left a Siemens. Went terminal and it wasn't that old, did a crap job of cleaning the dishes as well. Their CNC control systems are st as well with terrible support. Just not a fan of their products

Easiest place would be in a cupboard next to it, plus, the appliance would stick out more with sockets behind it in most cases.

More to the point why would you need a waterproof socket. Mine is a complete steel unit at the back. Unlikely to have a fault there I think.

Also as the previous poster says you'll struggle for clearance with anything behind it let alone an outside socket!

The socket is recessed into the wall, the reason I ask about a water proof socket, is the matter of condensation, the washer will be integrated, so enclosed, my mother's dishwasher keeps tripping out.
I'm at the build stage, so I thought it might be worth replacing the face socket for an outside socket.

Don't want to confuse things, but the NEFF in my old house was excellent, the drawers were much more solid than the ones in our Bosch at work, I also never cleaned it in 7 years and it still works as well as day one...

If you had 13 years from a Bosch stick with them. We've had 2 hotpoints go bang after 2 years each. We've gone Bosch now and been trouble free for years

Had a freestanding Bosch that went well for a few years before getting replaced with an integrated Bosch when we had a new kitchen. Also going well. Only problem we've had with it was a fragment off a plate getting stuck in the pump causing it to jam, not really the fault of the dishwasher and fixed under warranty anyway. Got £120 for the old one on eBay.

I'd have Miele stuff if it weren't so expensive but could probably buy two Bosch dishwashers for the same price as the equivalent Miele. We also have Siemens kit in the kitchen (ovens) as they looked nicer than the Bosch equivalent so I appreciate the dilemma.

'+1' as they say. Siemens look more stylish, and as I see the appliances every day, worth the extra IMHO.

bought a Miele from new, it broke down 3 times in the 5 year guarantee period. After the guarantee ended by about 4 months, a glass broke in it, a slither got past the filter and caused it to effectively self-destruct, estimate to repair was £800. Now I have a Bosch, with all white goods I tend to pick depending on who has the longest guarantee now.

Our Bosch is identical to a NEFF model in every respect apart from the name! Same with our extractor.

They must have gone downhill since 2005 then, the ones at work are silent but not very solid at all. The drawers aren't a smooth action when moving which causes the plates to crash about, my NEFF is totally smooth, and if you pull the drawer too far it doesn't fall off it's runners unlike the Bosch.

Got a SMEG (still have to laugh at the name) through John Lewis. It's gone wrong once 3 years but frustratingly reset itself (it thought it had flooded itself)one hour before the engineer came out. He said "they all do that" whilst he had a cup of tea and a biscuit and serviced it free of charge.
Costco do extended warranties free of charge too if you need peace of mind.

It's a shame the Koreans aren't has heavily into dishwashers as they are at washing machines as I've got a 10 year old direct drive LG washing machine that hasn't gone wrong yet.

Mother had a 25 year old Hotpoint dishwasher that never needed anything but I guess they don't build them like they used to.

Interesting, my Bosch displays none of the charateristics you mention, but it is a 2000 model.

At the the time Bosch and NEFF did a built in dishwasher with extra capacity that sull fitted in a standard size cabinet. This is the one we have, it is much taller inside than normal and can take a full size NEFF grill pan and the cooker hood filter in the bottom with room to spare. It washes brilliantly even when fully loaded, you dont even have to use a rinse cycle as it seems to be able to take reasonable size particles. We only need to rinse the filter in the bottom once a month.

I must admit, I expected one or two replies at best to this thread but it seems that dishwashers are a contentious issue! wink

Neff doesn't seem an option, since at least on the John Lewis site they are all integrated. I checked Costco stock out too, and it's pretty much all Whirlpool (and one make I'd never heard of).

Miele are just too expensive - particularly since I live alone and probably shouldn't even need a dishwasher in the first place!

I think the Siemens has won, and it's what I'm planning to order. I need to wait a week or so to order it though - my job situation is about to change rather drastically, but that does have the advantage that quite soon it will be easy for me to be at home for the delivery........

You have of course forgotton the most important PH feature when it comes to dishwashers

Buy two - that way you never have to put stuff away, its like having self cleaining cupboards

Take clean dishes out of dw 1 use and place in dw 2, when dw 2 is full put it on (dw 1 is now empty)

take clean plates from dw 2 use and place in dw 1............etc

I'm currently trying to resist ordering the Siemens SN26T597GB.

Mostly because of the shiny blue light and because it's stainless steel - which I can justify (slightly) because it's about 30% more energy efficient.

Weak arguments, and my sensible side is saying order the Bosch. Not sure which side will win yet!
Hi - how are you getting on with the Siemens SN26T597GB? just about to purchase one here...
