My other half (26 year old female) has had small amounts of blood in her urine for the last few months, which is really worrying her. She went to the doc about a month ago who did a dip test, which came back all clear. Aside from minor pain in her lower abdomen she has no other pain or symptoms. She's booked in to see the gp again at the end of the week but is now convinced it's going to be bladder cancer - any doctors on here have any ideas what else it could be?!

Cheers,

Dom

Not a doctor but look at some data. For cancer concerns, cancer research's site is a good starting point.

From link below, bladder cancer is rare in younger people with 90% of those diagnosed being over 60.

http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer-info/cancer...

And,looking at that data, it's not just rare in a 20 something year old, it's *spectacularly* rare. 4 cases in the 25-29 year old group; an incidence rate of 1 in 500,000 females for that age group.

Doesn't mean it isn't, and that's what GPs are for, but it seems...more than unlikely.

Cheers mate I really appreciate that - she's a serious worrier but also a phd student so some good old data seems to have calmed her down a bit! PH really is a gem, you have no idea how much better she'll sleep tonight.

Thanks mate.

I had blood in my urine (52 and definitiely not female smile ) and have had cancer recently so taken seriously. After a camera viewing (not very pleasant) they decided it wasn't cancer and probably an infection.

I must say though, also had it 6 years ago and turned out to be a nasty painful stone, though was a lot of blood and very very painful to pee.

Not a doctor but the worry and condition is reasonably common. Hope it all works out ok

Ew. Get that checked. Different Dr if needs be.

Blood in urine is most definitely not normal, and needs investigating.

Whatever 'it' is, the earlier it's properly diagnosed and treated, the less treatment she'll need.

Don't be fobbed off by 'you're too young to have cancer'. It hopefully isn't, but wouldn't be unheard of. Adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix would be one of those.

Blood in urine for females can often be a contaminant due to intercurrent menstration. If she is passing frank blood in her urine then it needs investigating. Urine dip should pick this up. Significant blood in urine will warrant Ix, perhaps a cystoscopy but your GP should advise on what is appropriate.

Go up to your GP, ask for some urine pots, collect the sample and return for a dip. If it is positive then further Ix will result.

She doesn't eat lots of beetroot per-chance?

I had blood in my wee (27 at the time) and the doctor said it was probably nothing. Few months later I had it again and it was diagnosed as Bladder Cancer. Get it checked.

One girl from the BC forums had hers removed in her late 20s as it was diagnosed too late.

Thanks everyone.

She's definitely taking it seriously and is seeing the doctor tomorrow (the soonest appointment they ). I'll update this once I know what they said...fingers crossed it's nothing serious!

Cheers,

Dom
