Christ you lot will be crying about fishing next FFS.
Well, if the object of the exercise was to:

1. Hook the fish
2. Cut its fins off
3. Put it back into a small pond
4. Arrange for some 12-year-olds to then stab it until it bleeds a lot
5. Put it on a hot rock where it slowly cooks to death

Then - yes.

You're not wrong, you have to be seriously warped to try and justify bull-fighting.

Can't be on about me I've not really tried to justify anything.

A big angry bovine being attacked by men in silly costumes.

Still it is better than that village which used to throw a donkey from a tower.

They should barbeque the deceased and share the meat with the crowd, regardless of whether it is matador or bull.
Yum yum, bulls bits or man sandwiches, that would add a bit of spice to the proceedings.

When the Mrs lived in Malaga years ago I went to visit her, on a walk past the bullring one morning we were treated to a foul stench and what seemed like tar on the floor, they'd actually cut the bull up and put it in the wheelie bins, the give away was the huge tail hanging out of one of the bins, a barbecue would have been less of a waste.

The tar was blood BTW wink

Bullfighting is undoubtedly cruel, but if you were born a bull, given that a long and peaceful life as some kind of pet is unlikely, would you rather a) be castrated at the age of 6 months, then fattened up on a diet rich in artificial additives, shot full of antibiotics, kept in a shed with rare glimpses of sunlight and no exercise, crowded with similar unfortunates, then, when you reach a certain weight, loaded into a truck, driven for miles, then stunned and killed with a bolt to the brain before your body is ground up to make hamburgers OR b) left with testicles fully intact, to roam freely outdoors in the sun on vast open grasslands for a number of years before making a trip to the bull ring where you will have a chance (not a big chance, but nevertheless a chance) of inflicting damage on a human tormentor and a chance (a very small chance but nevertheless a chance) of being sent back to your wide open grassland to live out your days as a stud? I know which I would choose.

Secret option C. Not be born in the first place.

Given that we like milk on our cornflakes, etc, we need cows, and cows produce bulls. Secret option C thus is a fallacy.

I hope that's not aimed at me?

I enjoy my game shooting - one might even say I have fun shooting game and enjoy the day out/hunting trip. I also know there are a lot of PHers who also feel the same. Let's be honest, whilst some game hunting can have ecological benefits for the 'greater good', that's not the driving force for the majority of people.

Nothing wrong with shooting. I shoot and fish too, although haven't fitted either in for a while now.

But I am quite sure that you make every possibly effort to ensure a clean kill. Not attempting birds that are too high, using the correct load etc. I am also sure that the pheasants are then eaten.

Shooting and bullfighting are both blood-sports but are nowhere near the same level of barbarity. Everyone has their own line to draw but I would have hoped most right-minded people would draw that line a long way before supporting bullfighting.

I shoot, fish and eat meat. As I said above, everyone has their own line to draw. Mine is drawn before fox-hunting, bullfighting, badger-baiting etc.

I also don't see being a vegan or a hippy (or indeed a woman with ovaries) as a negative thing that should be use as an insult.
