New Land Rover Discovery Sport images

The Range Rover Sport has seven seats so the Discovery Sport will too!

Somebody is very busy at the Land Rover design department. The cars actually share more of a family resemblance than ever but the camouflage being used really is very creative. There was the, er, vivid Sport SV-R and the kind of 'is it an optical illusion?' look seen on the prototype Sport, now we have the Discovery Sport.

Could be a squeeze back there
Could be a squeeze back there
Described by Land Rover as 'peeling back' the outer layer of the vehicle, it reveals the most significant current talking point of the the Disco Sport: seven seats. It's officially 5+2 which isn't surprising when you see the proximity of the rear chairs to both the bootlid and middle row. This all in a more compact footprint than traditional five-seat SUV, apparently. Let's hope they're travelling light.

And there's little more to know about the Discovery Sport for now. No additional aircraft carrier or sci-fi technology. The prototypes are now undergoing final testing before sales commence in 2015. The Sport joins the existing Discovery range so Land Rover will offer two Discovery models and two Range Rovers with seven seats. Spoilt for choice!

All Land Rover products seem to be morphing into one model at the moment, getting difficult to tell the difference between the models, doubtless it will sell like hot cakes.

LR Disco, this baby LR Disco and the RR Sport have 7 seats. And the 110 Defender. What's the other 7 seat Rangie then? If there are 2 LRs (actually 3 and this new one) and 2 RRs as stated in the article?

The FFRR has a 7 seat option I believe.

I bet there will be a queue of people wanting to sit in the crumple zone at the back with their knees in their face whilst all their luggage goes um...

That's exactly what it is, it replaces the Freelander

So its still going to be just too small? Like my current Freelander, not quite big enough. The seats have to come down far too often.

Other than that, it looks OK. I bet they won't offer a petrol with decent performance in the UK, despite offering it elsewhere.

I'd be prepared to pay extra for one, if it pushed out something around or more than 260BHP.

I guess I am not their usual SUV buyer.

Don't think so. It has a 4 seat option.

Be interested in the dimensions of this, not that interested in the +2 bit just how big the boot is. Ran a FL2 for a while, which was actually a better car than most gave it credit for. Quite interested in this FL3/Disc Sport.
Just didn't think the boot was big enough in the ZfL2 and that alone would stop me buying one of these. Although they did have more rear leg room than the then RRS, aka the inverse Tardis.
