So, my long-held Mannings arranged policy with Amlin falls due for renewal on 24 August - I receive the renewal invitation for a quite acceptable premium but, doing the honourable thing given the car will hopefully be running again by then and what I thought was a good relationship based on my loyalty, I give Mannings a call to declare the turbo etc and revise the cover from renewal. Cue the sharp intake of breath and the "sorry sir, we don't insure aftermarket turbocharger or supercharger conversions, even for customers who have been with us and claim/conviction free for donkeys years..., nope, not at all, not at any price, not never ever" conversation rolleyes

So, an hour on the phone later, Mannings/Amlin lose my business and goodwill completely, and their invited renewal premium plus all of £25 more secures equivalent or better cover and lower excesses, and agreed value, with turbo etc specifically declared via Equity Red Star. Absolutely senseless confused

Funnily enough I am with Equity Red Star (via Classicline) and their attitude to risk is refreshing. An upgrade from 4 litre standard to 5 litres, plus 80 bhp, and numerous other mods, was met with " great, thanks, no change in premium". The only thing that changed my premium was a change from 5000 mile's pa to unlimited.

I wasn't for a moment expecting there would be no additional premium, fair's fair etc and I was entirely happy to negotiate a realistic loading to reflect the extra risk. Summary rejection without, as far as I could tell, so much as even putting the proposal to an underwriter just seems lazy and hardly what I'd expect of a 'performance' specialist broker; he may as well have said 'no way mate, we don't insure blue cars'. Maybe life's a little too easy presently in Henley on Thames rolleyes

Similar issue for me. "oh dear, I am coming to the end of my 5000 miles after only 9 months....please Mr Manning, can I buy a few more?" "NO!"

So i rang around, and Classicline came up with the goods, unlimited mileage, unlimited track days, and no problem with experienced drivers modding their cars. Probably drive modded TVRs themselves.......laugh

I had exactly the same experience with Mannings, after three years and no claims I mentioned the dirty word 'supercharger' and they ran for the hills. And that was with five months left and this post has reminded me that the rebate they told me I qualified for never arrived. The best of it was my new policy with Adrian Flux was for 2000 more annual miles and, even with a supercharger, was £40 cheaper than Mannings. Not impressed!

I was with Mannings and in their defence they were absolutely excellent when I had the misfortune to claim. I too though was disappointed that they didn't insure Forced Induction so sadly had to leave. I'm now with Classicline, very understanding and helpful.

Same here with Mannings, got the 'sorry we don't cover SC's' and back end of last year 'sorry we can't give you another 1k miles, you'll have to renew..... fortunately was only a couple of months away from renewal anyway.... God knows what they'll say when I tell them about the flux capacitor........

I have been with Mannings for nearly four years but I fear it will be the last.
At last years renewal I said I would want to add my son next year, who will be 25 by the time of the next renewal, Clean licence, no claims, full licence since 17,drives 30K per year. Told "sorry sir we cannot insure him until he has at least 1 years experience of driving a similar power rear wheel drive car"

I said ok looks like this is my last year with you then!! Oh and by the way I don't want the accident management cover. Why should I pay you to outsource what you should be doing as my broker anyway!!

My Supercharged 400 is insured by Mannings, and has been for the last 5 years.

Renewal is due in September ... it will be interesting to see what happens.

I just gave up my last insurers because they came back with a daft renewal and now also gone Classicline Equity Red Star. Did try Mannings but was told the maximum mileage they cover is 6,000 pa.

With Classicline I also have unlimited track days with exception of Spar and the Ring and my car is standard 400 but when talking of mileage he said the maximum i could obtain was 7,500 pa. Strange how you get unlimited mileage Anthony.

They are flexible, I asked, she went away to discuss, came back and said yes. It costs £465 a year inc track days, but I am doing over 12,000 miles a year.

But then they know you will never need to go faster than 88mph
