I just got a note saying I spent £6974 on fuel last year for 1 car (FFRR) and I did less than 15k miles

Kind of woke me up to think that is too much and I just hadn't realised what I was spending. It all adds up!

How much do you spend? (ideally more so I can justify it to the Mrs)

I was spending £6-700 a month up until recently. E500 has been sold and I have bought a diesel X-Trail. Something had to give in terms of outgoings and fuel and running costs of my main car was it.

Different end of the automotive scale, but my daily driver hasn't been too bad.
Since September 2013:
15768 miles
£1974
Averaging 48MPG
Still a good chunk of money of course, but not too bad!

About £2k for 10k (Petrol). I get £1.2k back in "Mileage payments" for the business use part of that though so only £800/year I actually pay out.

That probably doesn't help much. smile

Based on my normal mileage I spend more annually on Ved and Insurance than fuel. That is a frightening thought.

6,000 miles per year in the Porsche - about 1800 plus various hires/ GF's car for when that car won't do - say another 500-700 quid. Call it 2.5k for cash.

Early indications are that I'm screwed and the Mrs should not see this thread!

Good on you guys and hopefully I should join you as the RR is on it's way out....for a Defender (25 MPG on Diesel as opposed to 15 MPG for Petrol)

In fairness to drive a Porky that seems good, albeit only 6k per year

I recently replaced my aging BMW FFRR for a Supercharged Sport and have discovered my Aston V8 Vantage gets superior mpg. So I use that as a daily and garage the L320.
Man Maths. Do it. biggrin

If it's any consolation I only get 16mpg round town out of a Mondeo. smile

Surprising people off the lights mostly. smile

Claimed "Urban" mpg is only 20.8 and that will be breathing on the throttle rather than pressing it! I don't speed but I do accelerate hard up to 30/40 limits.

Downside to a Turbocharged 2.5l inline-5 petrol in a heavy car.

Just stopped commuting from Chelmsford to Milton Keynes every day in a varied selection of VWG's finest. It varied between £6-700 for 4wd petrol-powered TTs and £450 a month for 1.4-litre petrol A3s.

So easily £7k a year I reckon. Erk.

(edited for maths fail)

I do 18k per year and spend about £2400 on fuel. Not that bad really, and average around 41 to the gallon. Mainly A road driving with a 15 mile commute.

My pug 208 (1.2 petrol NA straight 3) does 400 miles on £50 so that lasts me 2-3 weeks depending on work. My range rover sport (4.2 petrol supercharged v8) will do about 250 miles on £100 which lasts 3-4 weeks.

Overall I must spend around £2500-£3000 a year so quite a bit less than the op.
