Eastbourne Pier Fire

Eastbourne Pier is ablaze unfortunately. Who'd be a Pier on the Sussex coast? Brighton, Hastings and now Eastbourne.

Wasn't just under new ownership was it?!?

I think the one at Weston super mud was when that went up.

I think in Brighton's case the Ugly Sister got jealous that Cinderella was going to get a fancy new dress for the ball, and was a little worried she might be upstaged.

It was, but they had nearly finished the refit.

Think that one was a genuine accident.


They've done a really nice job on it post fire though.

I was thinking the same. You would think that such buildings, if in use, would have a decent protection and detection, or perhaps the money is not in it anymore to pay for that.

From the aerial footage it looks like it's confined to the front building, so hopefully the rest of it can be saved.

Whenever a Pier goes up in flames my immediate reaction is to assume it is arson.

Are there grounds for this? Have piers that have burned in the past usually done so because a fire was lit deliberately?

Back on topic, I remember watching Brighton pier burn. It's horrible thing to see old buildings die.

The Brighton West Pier fire was allegedly quite convenient for the owners of the Palace Pier.
