I got home today to an email from a training provider (with whom i am awaiting the interview results for an oil and gas apprenticeship) offering me an interview next week for a similar engineering apprenticeship with a local large hospital.
I knew the training provider had sent me details off to other employers, but didnt know who.
The two disciplines are electrical (which i can kind of envisage) but i cannot fathom what a mechanical apprentice would do at a hospital.

Any ideas?

I would imagine it would be along the lines of these main 3 things

  • Building Maintenance
  • Gas systems
  • HVAC & other heating systems

How did you get on with Opito? Is that the oil and gas apprenticeship your waiting to hear about? I got as far as the reserve list which was a bit disappointing but, I could have done better in the interview.

I think I've applied for over 20 apprenticeships this year and had around 10 interviews altogether. It's so hard to get an apprenticeship these days! I managed to get the job I wanted in the end though smile.

Best of luck mate.

Three words for you: Hospital, Gas, Money!
Anything that gets you trained and certified in medical gas installation is worth a small fortune. Stay with the hospital, get your ticket, get some experience then move to the private sector. If you like getting your hands dirty then stay as an installer / tester, if you like wearing a shirt and filling out spreadsheets then start designing systems. It's a huge market and there are only a handful of people that can fill the roles. Best of luck.

Not what I do, but I sometimes work with guys who do this and boy do they know how to stack an invoice.

As per YorkshireWhiskey

Normal mechanical things (boilers, ventilation, plumbing etc) plus specialist (medical gases, compressed air, steam, biomass boilers etc)

Go for it, become a mechanical AP, then an AE and earn loads telling other people what to do smile

I didnt get far with the Opito one.

The one i am awaiting a reply from is for an on shore role at Europes largest onshore oil field. (Some light googling will reveal the company)

Did you apply for any others?
